I recently adopted a 5 month old female Bloodhound puppy. We already have 2 adult males and an adult Basset Hound. This puppy is the most stubborn dog I've ever run across. She is very food possessive and we've had a few good fights - no injuries thankfully. Now we keep her on a chain at meals and they do fine. I don't know how to reassure her that no one is going to take her food and that all the food doesn't belong to her? She pays no attention to us. None of my dogs are especially well trained, but they're pretty good anyway. Basically, the food thing is her worst problem at the moment. The rest of the time they play like old buddies.
Now the real kicker = she's in heat. The people I got her from assured me that she was spayed. They lied. All my males are neutered, but they still seem to be interested. This has been going on for what seems like an eternity and she's still not ready. She's already got an appointment for spaying as soon as she's completely out of heat. I'd had her just about 6 weeks before she went into heat. Could that have anything to do with her behavior? I'm thinking no, since she was that way before that.
