    Hot Dog Treats

I'm hoping for a quick response so I posted this here, hope that's okay.... Several of you posted previously how you make hot dog treats in the microwave. I have some hot dogs that need to be used up and wanted to make them tonight. Will someone please share how you do it.... I wasn't sure if you cook them on high and for how long, what size you cut the pieces and how long they will keep in the fridge. Are they supposed to turn out chewy or crunchy?? Thanks guys!!

    Re: Hot Dog Treats

I guess it depends on what your dog(s) like and what you're using them for.  For Caleb, I didn't/don't cook them.  I just sliced the hotdog up, then cut each circle shaped piece into small pieces.  It's been awhile since I used hotdogs for training, but I think I cut each slice into 8 pieces.

I also give them sometimes raw and they're good for hiding small pills, but I need to use up these hot dogs and am trying make the "dried" version of them so they don't go to waste.

I've heard some people say they microwave them until they're dried out.  Sorry, can't be more help then that.

    Re: Hot Dog Treats

I use hot dogs all the time for treats. They're nicely portable and Ari loves 'em. Well, I actually use lower fat turkey dogs - since Ari cannot tolerate a lot of fat in her diet and if we're training I can go through a lot of treats. I halve the hot dog lengthwise then slice them thin and then cook them in the microwave until dried out. Honestly, I'm on autopilot when I use the microwave so I couldn't tell you how long I let them cook in there. Maybe 45 seconds on high?
