    WTH is with the rosemary?

I've been scouring the planet, looking for a grain-free, canned, no chicken/chicken fat, no ROSEMARY, moderate protein level dog food.

Pirate can't have rosemary - it's a BIG seizure trigger, for him. The other day I was checking out the Honest Kitchen's website. I saw their Preference pre-mix -- grain-free, add my own meat, I can adjust the protein up or down...AWESOME, I think, and I ordered a trial size. I double checked the ingredients, and was satisfied.

UNTIL today, when the package came and I stopped and read the fine print. Apparently they only list the first few ingredients on the website...and ROSEMARY isn't listed on the website, but it's on the actual packaging. Sigh.

I just don't understand, why do so many companies put rosemary in their food?? What is so special about friggen rosemary??

Also, if anyone wants my now-useless sample of Preference, let me know and I'll throw it in the mail. It's only a 4 oz package.

No clue what the deal with rosemary is.  You might look at CORE.  (The fish one.)

I was wondering the same thing. The salmon oil that I give Bailey has rosemary in it, not sure why, it doesnt make it smell any better Tongue Tied

Thats why I hate buying dog food/treats online, they never put the full list of ingredients. I bought some treats online I thought he would like, ingredients seemed good, when they got here, there was corn listed on the back, that wasnt listed online. I had to give them away because corn makes Bailey's ears itch.

It has parsley and chicory root - and a little too much protein for Pirate. Good try though!

rosemary is an anti-bacterial and an anti-fungal -- so they're using it for it's help in preservation ... THAT's what the deal is.  But they oughta put it on the label because it IS one of those piney-type of things that can trigger seizures.  Frankly I'd be on the phone wanting my money back and REAMING them that they oughta make that one PLAIN because it's such a seizure-trigger.  That's common knowledge -- ANY pine aromatic will trigger seizures.

How about Sojo's Complete?  I know the pre-mix contains rosemary, but the new complete formula with turkey does not.

Also a few of the Grandma Lucy's dehydrated formulas may work---most are moderate protein, though some formulas do contain rosemary.

I emailed the company -- told them no need for a refund, that I have other dog friends that would take my trial -- but that I think they should put rosemary on the website.

I've got no ideas... I know when I was looking for food for my seizure pup - it was really hard to find. I ended up with Orijen puppy - I don't remember if it was in there or not...

Yeah, I started crock potting, again. Good luck!! It's so hard, with sensitivities to such common food items.

If you still need a home for the sample I'll take it. :) PM me for my addy.

I just checked the SoJos grain-free premix (green bag) I use and there's no rosemary to be seen.  I'm liking the food - my vet suggested feeding it for half of the dogs' meals and so far, so good.

Re: WTH is with the rosemary?

I had found the same thing when looking for treats for my now former epi dog.  I had always bought him the no corn/wheat paul newmans brand and then after he became epi and I was told to avoid rosemary I couldn't use them anymore.  I am gettiing a new puppy in January and I have to get over this mind set I have that I can't use rosemary.  At least I hope for the best that I won't have to eliminate it.  If I get another epi dog again I might have to raise goldfish for a change.
