    Re: Unique girls' names (janobonano)

Eden, Amarias, Caroline, Cecelia, Elysia, Marika, Lucy, Penelope, Victoria

I know some of them are kind of common, but I do not hear them used too much anymore.

Whenever I start looking up name meanings, I think of that part in Kill Bill where the lady says, "Butch, what does it mean?" And he says, "This is America sweetheart, our names don't mean ***." LOL

    OMG, what a jerk.

    I like Eden and Tegan.

Tegan is lovely, and I have always liked Seren as well (which means Star and I think it has Welsh origins).

Both my guys (had they been girls) would have been Aisling (Ashleen) or Siobbhan (Sha-von).  Thing is, you never know what names are going to be in or out at any given time, so all you can do is give her a name you love and hope she loves it too when she grows up. DS #1 is *Sean* and when he was born that name was hardly ever heard of, certainly not with the Gaelic spelling.  A lot of people pronounced it *seen* as rhyming with *bean*.  My MIL, bless her, thought we named him *Swan* because we lived by the ocean.  #2 is Liam, and even now almost 33 years later we still rarely hear it.

I LOVE that name. I desperately tried to get my sister to name her kid that.. She wanted to name *him* Eden (but spelled Eadon or something??). Then she decided Aidan would be okay...then she found out how common it is, so somehow he ended up Zachary instead (his middle name is Aidan though). I still think he'd make an awesome Liam.

My two week old niece is Lucy, which even though it's "ordinary" isn't actually too common. My cousin's 6 year old is Alleen (short A, long E), which I've hardly heard outside of my family, lol. Their middle names are Marissa and Grace, respectively.

I also absolutely adore the name Fallon for a little girl.

The only weird thing about giving the boys totally Irish first and middle names is that they don't mesh real well with their very Hispanic last name Big Smile but everybody is used to it by now.

    Re: Unique girls' names (janobonano)

I really like the names Scarlett (but my niece is named Charlotte so I'll never get to use it...)

    I like Ava.

I also really like the name Anson. It's a family name, and generally used for boys, but I think it would work for a girl as well. Nicknames could be Ani or Soni. I think its so so cute.

Another one I really really like is Hazel.

I don't know if anyone on this site was following my quest to assign a name to one of mu stuents, but she went with Emi, which I think is so so cute. Not quite Emma, not quite Emily, I think its super super cute.

ETA: I was looking over some other posts, and I have to say that I really love Fern and Fiona as well!

    Re: Unique girls' names (janobonano)

I'll come back later and browse through the name suggestions when i have time.

I work in the NICU, and there's such a fine line between unique and not cute lol.

We have tons of Nevaehs...this is the worst name i've ever heard. December and Paris were the other 2 bad ones i've heard this month. I'll take a stroll later and see if i find any cute ones!

I really like Scout and Harper for a girl myself. Then non traditional i like Kate.
