I needed an SAE(supervised agriculture experience) for school/FFA, and the closest thing I am able to get to livestock is a rabbit! So, hopefully she took the breeding, and I will have baby holland's in about a month!(Thats the project part), but other then that, shes just a pet! I got her from Sea Breeze Bunnies, they are a breeder about an hour and a half from here, in Myrtle Beach, SC!

    Re: I got my bunny!

Very cute bunny. Please realize though, that there is a problem with homeless rabbits, just as with cats and dogs. Our local shelter has had to euthanize rabbits before, as after someone at a local tractor supply store started selling them the shelter ended up getting too many. Many were aggressive as well. Hard to believe that a little rabbit could be aggressive but those that have not been handled enough can be nasty. Another strike against them when trying to adopt them out. I have fostered and kept 3 rabbits from the shelter....one had to have his teeth cut on a regular basis, as his bite was such that they wouldn't wear down like they should. The little guy I have now has a problem with his stool matting up on his hair and I have to comb his stinky butt every night. If I don't keep up with it, I end up having to put his butt end in water, to soften it, so that I can get it combed out. His cage is swept out 2 or 3 times a day to try to keep up with his cleanliness. He can't help himself, as it is the way his butt end and tail are too close together. When he was found his whole rear end was caked with poop. Whoever had him, didn't realize that no matter how clean they kept his cage his rear end would still be filthy. I'm sure they just didn't know what to do and probably why they got rid of him. Not trying to come down on you at all, just trying to educate a bit. You've got a cutie that's for sure.

Shes deffinately not aggressive, and the women I got her from is a good breeder, she doesnt breed agressive animals of any kind. Thank you and I know that all animals are overpopulated, luckily Hollands only have 3-4 kits per litter on average, and I will try to sell them to other breeders only, or close friends that I know have no intention of breeding.

Your bunny sure is a cutie...but is this your first rabbit? And she's already pregnant? After cats and dogs, rabbits are the most abandoned pets at shelters. In fact, the humane society I used to volunteer at has at least 13 adoptable bunnies right now, and rabbit adoption is SLOW. This FFA/4-H that you are not yet a member of, requires you to breed animals???  I'm sorry, but I don't see the value behind bringing more rabbits into the world when there are already SO many needing homes.

Sorry...I don't want to spoil your moment and I know you'll take great care of Pansy, (Holland Lops are great. I had two males before.) but there are just so many homeless rabbits now. People get them as babies and then the appeal wears off, and since female bunnies do not have menstrual cycles and can become pregnant year round, they are often dumped at shelters.

Anyway, I'm sure you love your new bunny, and she is SO cute. Very pretty color.

Here are mine...Sunny (black) passed away a couple years ago, and Emma (tort...named Emma because originally thought to be female) passed away earlier this year. They were great, silly pets.

We have a VERY AGGRESSIVE female, mini Rex. I got her at a yard sale, already an adult, 'free to good home' because I didn't want someone to take her and do something nasty to her (like feed her to a pet snake). I've had rabbits all my life (mini lops and Rex) so I though we could handle it....we're afraid of her, lol- she's drawn blood several times on us and the vets- but we can't rehome her because we're afraid they'll put her to sleep. We called the MSPCA and they said they'd take her but if she's agressive (which she is) and can't be rehomed they'll likely put her down. We tried to letting her take treats from our hands (House Rabbit Society advice) but she bites first then takes the treat. If you walk by her cage (which is inside) she'll charge and growl- loudly!

    Re: I got my bunny!

rabbits can be VERY VERY aggressive - watch out for those back feet - they kick like nothing else! And it HURTS. Rabbits are very strong creatures - not just cute cuddly little things.

Please have her spayed after this. I see way too many rabbits coming through the shelters - most people just turn them lose - because they see the little brown bunny in the yard and figure their 'pet' will do just fine (they don't, for the record).

Yup, and don't I know it all too well (from trying to trim her nails mainly)!
