Is this normal? It doesn't feel fatty, it feels attached and solid, right on the lower neck near the shoulder blades ... Thoughts? Thanks in advance, Karen

  Re: Oliver's rabies shot reaction (Outdoorschik) Reply Contact If you can stop at a health store that carries homeopathics and pick up "Ledum" -- that's good for after a vaccine to help dispel it. "pluck" at it -- pick up between two fingers and just let it snap back.  That will massage the area enoug so that it will force the vax to dissipate better.  Be gentle but firm -- and if he objects stop -- but just a couple of snaps a day should force that to break up and dissipate as it should. Holler at me later if you need a better description.  And tell Olly-vahhhh, that Aunt Callie sends SERIOUS smoochies to her bestest boy!!

Four months? It was crazy! And it was VISIBLE, from a distance, and quite ugly (on a toy sized, hairless dog). Vet said no big deal, and I did what Callie says. The ledum and plucking (I used some shea butter, also, but she is a nekkid dog) seemed to help it shrink down.

I wish they picked the back leg ... honestly if it turned cancerous he could do without a back leg ... but upper back? I truly hate vaccines in many ways. I think in the future I will try to titer him, this is his second rabies vacc, he's 4 now. I'll try and find that homeopathic stuff online, I have no access to homeopathic type stores anywhere near here.

I read that they do rabies vaccines in a back leg. Apparently this isn't always the case?? I wonder if there's a record of where Cherokee's last rabies vax was given, because I don't remember, but she's got a huge malignant tumor on her left shoulder... Not trying to scare you, I'm just literally sitting here about to vomit at the thought that the rabies vaccine that I really really really didn't want to give, but did because it's the law and Cherokee's a bite-risk, could have caused this tumor... Gibby just got his one year last Thursday.  He didn't get a bump this time but he did get one at the time of his first rabies vaccine...we were told to massage it and we did and it went down by the next day....   Re: Oliver's rabies shot reaction (Outdoorschik) Reply Contact Kobi always got his shot in the upper shoulder area. I never questioned it until he developed a tumor in that location. I did some research on injection site tumors but all I could find was opinion and lots of suspicions - no definite link. I am glad to hear the back leg is an alternative site and I will insist on it for any future injections. If there is a risk I can't for the life of me understand why they would use that location. It has to be one of the worst places to treat. It's very scary!

  Re: Oliver's rabies shot reaction (Outdoorschik) Reply Contact  Injection site is up to the vet. I prefer to do them on the back (right) leg. For tumor reasons. One cat vet I know does them in the elbow - again, for tumor reasons. It's not uncommon to do them in the neck. Another vet I worked for gave them near the rib cage - because he felt there was a lesser chance of infection. Regardless of where it's injected - it should be documented in case of reaction (so you know which shot the pet reacted to) Slight lumps after vaccines are normal. I would give it some time to dissipate.

I started doing it with my girls, and frankly, I could care less if the vet gets aggravated with me, it's my pet. I got a weird look, but if that is what I get, I'm fine with that. Helps the body throw off the toxins in the vaccine -- homeopathics do MUCH MORE than just that tiny blurb on the label.  Go to http://www.abchomeopathy.com and look up Ledum there and read the huge list of stuff it can do.  Ledum is a very very common homoepathic to give post vaccine. The 6C is fine -- if they are pellets give 3-4 probably three times a day for 2 days.  If they are tablets just one 3 times a day for 2 days.  NOT with food, under the tongue if you can get it there -- put in a folded piece of paper and crush and just pour the powder on the tongue.
