They mentioned that they will have a lot of dogs (900!!) up for adoption. I thought I'd post in case anyone was looking for a greyhound.

http://www.dairylandgreyhoundpark.com/adoption.asp

Aspen`s ready to find his new home!

That Aspen has been here for almost a month already, and he`s finally ready to start meeting some adoptive families!! He`s come a long way from where he was when I took him home, he`s learned what it`s like to live in a house and learn some new skills. He`s still got some growing up to do, but that`s something that just comes with time and continued training and management.

Once again, I`ve learned so much from him, from how to teach a dog what a ``house`` is, down to how to deal with the frustrations of an impatient Pittie mix. LOL!!! He`s pressed a few of my buttons for sure, although it`s usually after a long day at work and I just don`t have to energy to run him again, and I just want to relax and he thinks that we should be doing other things. *sigh* But he`s a good boy and he`ll make a great family member in his forever home (I say this as he chews on his blanket in his ex-pen...haha). I`ve fallen in love with him, but I am also honest enough to note that he would not make a good permanent fit for my home, due to the current dog dynamic, so I don`t have that worry of falling too much in love with him. I will be putting every effort forth to help find him the right home for his exercise and stimulation needs.

I`m glad to have had the opportunity to work with him. He`ll stay here until either an opening at the shelter comes up for him to go back (not my choice, but it`s hard to adopt fosters out here from foster homes) or he finds a home from here. We`ll see which one comes first. Congrats Aspen boy, we have done what we set out to do one month ago, and so much more!!!

the story is really sad. The dog is a 1 year old Male White deaf boxer with blue eyes. The dog belongs to my aunts (my marriage) brother.

He got the dog about a year ago and decided since the dog was useless to him, in his opinion because the dog is deaf it can't be trained. (Which is not true). He said he is fed up with the dog and if someone came and wanted him tomorrow he would hand him over no questions asked. The dog is being kept out in the cold with very little to no shelter.

How would you suggest going about finding him a good home, they have asked all friends and relatives and posted an ad in the local paper.

What else?

My aunt feels so bad over this and feels like responsible for the dog so she is trying to find him a home (she has 2 boxers herself and just can't take in another)

I can't take him either my apartment has a 2 dog limit. I know we have this all over myspace. Poor thing is going to freeze to death I'm afraid if we dont find him a home soon, owner just turned him out in the cold.

What do you suggest we do to find him a home. Flyers, craigslist maybe?

Spread the word! Cross post as you like.

Hello all,
Please pass this information to everyone you can to help move these dogs into other rescues or permanent homes. They have predominantly German Shepherds but there is also a Great Pyrenees, Akita's, Rotties, and some other breeds and a few mixes as well.
I spoke to Neisha and she said the best way to communicate is via email contact, see below. They also need transport volunteers. Dogs that are not adopted or moved will have to be relinquished to other kill shelters or euthanized. I am trying to convince my hubby that we need one of the 13 yr olds as everyone knows they will not be considered by most people.
The dogs have until Oct 30.

*****************************************************************************************************
Camp Wolfgang near Dallas (Ennis, TX) is closing. Last day in service will be 10/30/2009. They have 198 GSD's there as of this morning, down from >400 earlier this year. They are closing due to decreased funding. It costs over $15,000 per month to keep the rescue open with the number of dogs and type of care they provided.
The closing is a decision that was difficult, but it is made. So they MUST move the dogs out. They will have NO choices with any dogs that remain when the date comes.
If you want to send a donation to assit with transport costs that would be much appreciated. Please go to their site athttp://www.campwolfgang.org/ to donate.
Time is of the essence.
If you know anyone who can adopt, accept a dog into their rescue, or help in any way, contact Neisha Livengood, kennel master at Camp Wolfgang.
Neisha can be reached at:
personal email: windigo1966@ yahoo.com
phone: 214-755-1627.
Camp Wolfgang General Address
Physical Address: Camp Wolfgang, 6234 FM 879. She will be going to the vet next week for a follow up on the heartworm treatment. She is about 2-3yrs old. Is in her last stages of recovery from heartworm treatment and is doing well. She is up on date on vaccination and should be ready for her new home as soon as we get the ok from the vet. She is a people dog she loves to cuddle. She was getting along fine with my dog but after the treatment she wants nothing to do with him and even growls at him. She needs to go to a home where she will be the only dog. She is ok with my sister who is 11yrs old. Absolutely no cats. I would like her to go to somebody that has had experience with doberman's or knows about them. Please email me or pm me for more information. She is posted on petfinder: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14737011

Update - Cattle Dog needs savvy home

Adolescent cattle dog needs home. Has seen professional behaviorist who dx'd owner directed aggression (no punctures) due to displaced herding behaviors. This dog is smart, does well at day care and play groups with both people and other dogs, a bit obnoxious when soliciting a subordinate dog to play, but respects the space of the more powerful dogs. Will tug with another dog without being a jerk. Likes water, and will tip a dish and lay in it, so non-skid water bowls are a must:-) He will be available for adoption in Sept. to an ACD savvy home with no small kids (he is a rambunctious player). Will need a "job" such as agility, or some other mentally stimulating activity and might do well in a home that has a compatible playmate dog - you can't tire him out walking lol. He will need NILIF and an owner used to dealing with a pushy dog using positive methods and management tools. We have extensive knowledge of his background, will be able to refer you to his original vet for his records, and think he will do well in the right home, so PM if you are interested.

Gorgeous Lanseer in Ozark Missouri (shadowsgin)

We found out about a Landseer in Ozark Missouri yesterday. He is 5, he is neutered, has had all shots. He is under the watchful eye of a rescue but they did not have large enough facities for this 150lb boy. He is currently being boarded at a Vet clinic. We were so tempted as we have always wanted a Newf. Because we have Hot Shot, 4 years old, 150 lb Berner, we weighed all the pros and cons and couldnt get past the fact that there would need to be a dominant male and we could not chance a set back with Hot Shot. He was from an abusive home and it has taken us over a year to get him to the point he is now. 2 older 150 lb dogs may have worked but we just couldnt take the chance that either would get hurt or be unhappy.

With permission from the lady at the rescue here is what I know of his story.

Sampson is beautiful, his former owners were older I was told, a couple, the man was large and had no problem but the woman was intimidated by his size. This boy needs a forever home that has experience with handling a dog of his size. I wish it had been mine but after much thought it could not be. They are trying to get him with a Newf Rescue but in the mean time he is in a boarding kennel. Not a ideal place for such a large boy. He needs large fenced yard and needs to be allow inside. He has been around other dogs and doesnt pay any attention to the barking at the kennel. A behavorist has checked him out and found no sign of agression. I dont know if he has been around children but typically a Newf would be good with children however; due to his size and age I would think they would need to be older children.

he can be seen at Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14678612

come across a dog that he just doesn't like. He is staying at a dog
daycare & boarding facility where he gets to play with most of the
dogs. He would be best in a home where he would be the only dog. Lucky
needs alot of attention. He knows how to sit and shake. Also knows the
word wait at doors. He sleeps in a crate at night. Lucky loves his
nyla-bone, it keeps him occupied for quite a while at times. Very food
driven. He is very smart but stubborn. We are working on the jumping

below is about Layla..my 1st foster. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me @ mothruv2@yahoo.com. **To see pictures of Layla, please click the "photos" link in my profile.

Layla is a breeder release. She just turned 7 yrs young this month
& weighs 9lbs 9oz. She's a gorgeous yorkie with big brown eyes, a
silky blonde coat, and a smile that makes your heart melt (Yes..she
actually smiles). Layla is extremely affectionate & loves to curl
up in my lap. She IS potty trained, uses the doggie door/stairs, gets
along well with other animals (including cats) and will make a
wonderful addition to someone's home. She has been spayed, had her
dental, and up to date on shots. Layla needs a small
family/couple/person, without a busy/ hectic lifestyle, that's going to
have the time to give her the attention she needs. I feel it's best
that she not be placed into a home with small children, but teens should be fine.
I've documented everywhere but here recently. Buck, the dog I spoke of in the other thread, "A home for Buck" had his 3 week visit for his broken leg. The splint was removed, new films were taken and the compound fractures in his femur are healing nicely, with plenty of "gristling" on the outer surface of the bone. He gets to keep his leg. B adopted him initially from Sherman Animal Care and Control in Sherman, Texas. Part of the adoption fee pays for spay/neuter. She plans to have him neutered since that was part of the original deal and I will be seeing her and Buck in about an hour or so to help with his bath. He just got the splint off and is learning to walk on that leg again.

B is still committed to having him in rescue. She loves him so much that she wanted him to have a place to be where he could roam outside a little bit and that is why she had re-homed him with the family of her son's girlfriend. But that way led to this problem. He was, by some accounts, hit by a car and no one thought to take him to the vet. He was underweight. Before living in the other place, he was 70 lbs. Now, he weighs 62 but is gaining his weight back. Approx 7 months, intact as of today. We can provide all of his medical and adoption records and DNA test ( at least 80 percent Akita, mix with large breed herding dog, probably St. Bernard). I will be taking my camera along and also measure his height.

He loves kids and would never consciously hurt one but he plays like a 70 lb puppy so supervision is needed, mainly so that human kids don't hurt him. He likes cats and nearly every other dog he has met. He's a little guardy to adult human males until he knows you better. But he immediately likes human females. He loves to go in water, freezing or not. He is double-coated and can survive most any north American climate. One of the funny stories is that he would lick the face of one of the grandchildren. B doesn't want him in the habit of always licking people's faces and so, he would lick just the toes of the infant in a swing seat, and only as the toes came near him.

He is strong, fast, boisterous and will need consistent training and is scary smart. Right now, most of his training has been "no, Buck" and it seems to have worked some, basically on the premise of never allowing or rewarding what you don't want. B trained him that his one spot on the couch is where his blanket is. So, he does get couch privileges but only in the "Buck" spot. No beatings or spankings, just not ever allowing an unwanted behavior to get rewarded. I think he could do well with positive training and a job. He's strong enough to be a sled dog, more of a freighting dog, like a Malamute than top speed, like a Siberian. I could see him winning weight pull competitions and he could be a good at agility, and probably a rock star as a fly dog.

B wants him to have a home with people that have a yard he can carouse in who love him and care for the Akita breed. I have educated her of what I know of Akitas, which I have learned from here, most especially from Gina. I have informed her that people serious enough to rescue may keep him in the house as well, as several people don't always let their dogs roam the yard. She's only fed him human food recently to get his appetite back up and she has transitioned him back to dog food. I explained that many people here and serious enough to rescue are particular about food, too, and are likely to homecook for him or feed raw. That is, they will do many things differently than she does but love for the dog is underneath it all. He is current on his shots for a puppy just reaching 7 months.

During the week, my work schedule has me getting out of work at different times but I am often back at the office and heading home by 5 p.m. from a little town north of the metroplex. Nominally, I have weekends off unless I am on on-call that week, which means that I could receive a call to check something out. Essentially, though, I have the weekends off. Even on call, I have had one or two calls on a Saturday, none on a Sunday. That usually only happens if we had a storm in the last few days. I can be the first or primary leg of transport. Buck knows me. I have car that gets 33 mpg and I have enough room. Last January, I helped SSRR transport a 140 rottie and it was easy as pie. So, I have been "vetted" by a legitimate rescue before. So, once again, I'm looking to find a rescue for Buck.

Beagles

Anyone in Central NY wanting a beagle? His name is Buck, not yet a year old. From the looks of him he is mostly Akita, mixed with something else, maybe St. Bernard.

This is a pic of what he looks like though this is not a pic of him.

He looks like that but bigger. Anyway, our friend has decided she can't keep him because she has to keep him in the house all day while she works. He's a big dog that needs room. Right now, she has him living with a friend's family out in the country side. He seems okay. I told her about rescue orgs and my contacts here. I tried looking for akita rescues and there are not a lot and some of them are by referral only. So, I'm trying to see if there is a way I can help my friend find an akita-educated home for Buck. Last I remember, he is still intact, he just turned six months old but he is large. He's somewhat used to the leash. Our friend doesn't treat train and most of his training has been "No, Buck" and most times, he listens. He likes kids and some other dogs. He's a bundle of energy and needs lots of exercise and someone who understands the needs of Akita. He loves water and getting a blow dry. He's used to having his feet handled. He's had all of his other early vet care, shots, health check, even a DNA check, which shows up predominately Akita. He's the next town from me, here in far north Texas.

Anyone interested can pm me or refer me to a rescue org and that would be great. He was adopted from the Sherman Animal Shelter, which is a kill shelter. Sending him back there could be a losing bet. He's not homeless, per se, but he is with people that understand Akitas even less than our friend.

Found Foxhound or coonhound in Michigan -- needs his home or new home ASAP

Hi there,

On 7/18/09, a thin, dirty little foxhound (coonhound? looks like a tall beagle) showed up on my street in Highland, MI following a neighbor boy around. He has a collar but no tags or chip, and it kinda looks like his nails were trimmed, but it's hard to tell. I spent hours printing posters, inserting them into plastic sleeves, and attaching them to telephone poles at major intersections in 2 counties. I have many craigslist postings, a newspaper ad and have registered him on every lost & found site I can find.

In the meantime we cleaned him up and have been feeding him. He's very sweet, a beautiful dog, and I want him to find his real home or a new home. I have 4 animals already, I don't have the time or money to take in another dog. He looks out the window and whines, he misses his home or would want to be someone's special dog.

I was hoping that if I posted on a dog lover's forum, perhaps someone would know how to find the owner.. maybe he's AKC? Or maybe someone would find it in their hearts to consider taking this sweet boy in, someone with a fenced yard or the time to walk him regularly?

Thank you for your time.

She loves to roll in the grass, play and doesnt mind if she gets dirty! In person she really isnt Lab like at all. She seems like a smooth coated Newfoundland more like. She is very gentle, sweet, friendly and lumbering in her body style. She loves to be loved. Molly weighs about 65 lbs.
This is one of the dogs that has been abandoned by another rescue. They dropped her off a month ago asking for her to be vetted and boarded. They have promised time after time they were coming and have never shown. Miss Molly was saved from the Springfield pound. She is fully vetted, wormed and Heartworm Negative. I went over Saturday to get pictures. I was allowed to take her out on a short walk so she could feel grass on her feet and get some exercise.
I received this email from a friend on LI and it appears legit

----------------------------------------------------------------

We are writing to all our friends and
colleagues to ask if you know of
any family that might like to adopt the sweetest, most lovable dog we've ever
met.

We are trying to spread the word about our daughter's wonderful dog for whom we are
desperately seeking a loving home. We're on a terribly tight
timetable, making this search doubly difficult. After looking at what
we've written below, please let us know if you'd like any other
information to e-mail to any of your family, friends or colleagues who
might be interested in this unusual opportunity.

With great appreciation and all the

Peter and Marge

----------------------------------------------------------------

Our daughter, Peggy, had major spine
surgery two weeks ago and was told that she must put her beloved Daphne (Daffy)
up for adoption because a push, shove or jolt during the first year or so
could seriously damage her "new" spine. The thought of giving up
Daffy is devastating and the only consolation is that we can find a loving home
for her where she will be as happy as she has been with our daughter and her
family.

Peg has always had several dogs and
assorted other pets. Daffy is currently her youngest dog. She's a gorgeous
mutt with mostly pointer and some Dane background. Peg and
our granddaughter adopted her about 18 months ago from the
North Shore Animal League. She came to be called Daffy because she was such a
hilarious, joyful puppy. She's a little over 2 years old now, weighs about 80
pounds, and is (like all of Peggy's foundlings) the most wonderfully
loving animal imaginable.

Our son-in-law sent us the
attached photos: Daffy is the large, beautiful black and white dog; Sid,
the little fat dachshund, is her "step brother". Sid was 6
years old when Daffy joined the family and, as you can see, they're best
friends. Daffy is friends with every two- and four-legged creature she
meets, including the kitten that our granddaughter adopted (with
her mother's support) when Daffy was about a year old. It's been so
much fun watching Daffy and Kitty run around the house
playing hide and seek and tag, but their games now
would pose a serious threat to Peg's physical stability.

Peggy, her husband, their
daughter, and everyone in the family are heartbroken about having to
find a new home for Daffy, but we all agree that Peggy's safe
recovery and future health must be the first consideration.

Daffy is an extremely sweet
and affectionate dog with a totally happy disposition. She
can get overjoyed and very enthusiastic with adults but,
amazingly, she is admorably restrained with small children.
She's adored by all the children who visit the house. I've personally seen
her play with a dainty 2-year old girl, a shy 5-year old boy, and a
noisy 9-year old boy and she's incredibly gentle with all of them -- she
plays with them, but she never jumps on them and they have a marvelous time
with her.

Daphne is a little over 2 years old,
mostly pointer with some Dane, black and white, about 80 pounds.

She has a sweet, happy, joyful disposition
and is always loving with all dogs, cats, people -- and she adores
children.

She is spayed, up-to-date on all shots,
