Thanks Amanda, Jackie, and Lori. My vet was feeling sorry for her too and trying to avoid "sticking" her more than necessary. When he called with the test results Monday he said " we may have to stick Jessie one more time", but now it looks like it won't be for awhile. None of it fazed her except for the ultrasound; the next appointment after that, she was shaking in the waiting room. But after that she was fine again.

LOL, that is so true. I'm so glad she's eating well AND enjoying it too. Deliver some scritches for me, please. :)

Aww, thanks so much Karen.

My vet called and he has spoken with the internist at Purdue. She said as long as Jessie doesn't have any symptoms of pancreatitis there's no need to do anymore tests. She considers treatment a success if the dog is feeling well and isn't vomiting, etc. The fact that the results from the SPEC cPL went up from the last test are puzzling to her and she can't explain it; I think it may have been from going through the diet change a week before the test, but that's just me being optimistic. The best part of all this is that Jessie loves her cooked diet and is doing fine, blissfully unaware of all the worry she has caused her mom.

It's read on that link I posted they can make pancreatitis issues worse. And, you wouldn't think they were a big deal but apparently they are because they wouldn't allow Willow any topical steroids while on the oral kind said it would be too much.

Good point. When she was first diagnosed, my vet said we would have to avoid topical steroids in the future. She was never on oral steroids but my vet occasionally prescribed Animax for her feet or her ears. Since then he has changed his mind and said that from what he has read, they don't think steroids affect the pancreas anymore. She was being treated for an ear infection with Mometamax ( has a steroid) when blood was taken for the SPEC cPL; I asked him if it would affect the results and he said it wouldn't. I'm sure that's something he's going to ask the internist about.

Is she taking any steroid type drugs for her skin, even just the topical kind? It's read on that link I posted they can make pancreatitis issues worse. Thanks everyone; thanks for the link Lori. The worry is that her enzymes will continue to go up and she'll start showing symptoms. The cooked diet should have made her better unless there's something the vet missed. He may do another ultrasound to look for a mass or abscess; the one 3 months ago didn't show any. A reaction to the turkey in her diet may explain why she improved on the z/d but got worse on the cooked diet. I really hope it's that and not something else. I'm joining a yahoo group for owners of dogs with pancreatitis to see if I can learn anything that will help.

Oh, no! I hope poor Jessie doesn't have to do another diet change. Allergies are SUCH a pain!!!

The vet called today with the test results and it's went from 337 to 483. Pancreatitis is 400 and higher. She still acts fine; normal stools and great appetite. He doesn't know why the results are worse; they should be better on the cooked diet. I gave him a copy of the diet when she had blood drawn last week for the test and he said it's an excellent diet for pancreatitis. The internist he tried to call a few weeks ago didn't call back. He tried to call her again today and he said he will call everyday until she replies. He wants to know if there's anything else he can do and if it's time to refer Jessie to her. She's at the same vet teaching school where I take Jessie to see a dermatologist. I have also e-mailed Monica and asked if an allergic reaction to the cooked diet could inflame her pancreas. She had an ear infection a week after I started changing her to the cooked diet. I finished the treatment and she's still scratching her ear. She's also been scooting and she hasn't done that for awhile. On the plus side, her cough is much better after finishing the Clavamox. I'll keep you updated on what the internist and Monica say.

It's insanity the combo of foods and the stuff I add has to be just so, too much or too little and she's having problems. I try to imagine if she had another owner them doing this. . .

She's so lucky that you're taking care of her. What you've learned has also been very helpful to people who come here looking for help with their dogs that have digestive issues too. Give her some lovin' for me.
