It's swap time again. This time the theme is flowers. This swap will include sending something associated with flowers (e.g. note cards, stickers, magnets, etc.) to your partner. The item(s) should be a minimum of $5 not including postage (this doesn't mean you can't spend more if you want). Everyone will have 1 partner. This is an international swap so if you don't want to send internationally, please do not sign up.

Sign-up is until March 20th - the first day of Spring. Partners will be assigned the morning of March 21st.

All items must be shipped by April 3rd - which gives everyone two weeks to find your items and to ship them out

Here we go, folks! It's our next SWAP....this one will be cards for Valentine's Day or simply a cute card you think your partner might enjoy. You will be sending to TWO (2) partners in this swap and also, receiving from TWO(2). Feel free to send goodies in your card but the extra shipping will be on your dime of course!

We won't be attaching a $ limit to this SWAP since it's really just 2 cards and mailing them...

DATES:

SIGN-UP/DROP OUT by JANUARY 30TH, 2009.

This is the LAST day you can join in or drop out. Partners will be assigned this day as well. You will receive an email with your partners info...CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER if you do not receive it. If necessary I can give you the partner information so you won't miss out. But do provide a valid email address and check it when partners are assigned, please.

CARDS SENT BY FEBRUARY 9TH, 2009.

This is the date your cards should be in the mail. This allows plenty of time for them to be received and enjoyed before the actual V-Day date arrives. Consider WHERE your partner lives when sending. If you get an out of state or COUNTRY addy for ex you may need to send earlier.

INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME. So please, don't sign up if you are not willing to send overseas/to another country.

Just because I know many here liked her and found her interesting, I thought I'd post that she passed on last night or early this morning. She'd been slowing down quite a bit and not as interested in hunting or food the last couple of days as she has been. I never expected to have her with us this long and her loss is rather a bigger one than I'd forseen.

Her egg sacs are in the garage....6 or so...so hopefully in Spring her legacy will continue.

Rest in Peace bug-a-boo...we all loved you very much.

Zorak lived with us from early Sept-Jan 2nd 2009...and likely hatched in early Spring 2008.

Her name IRL was Barbara Tassinari,

Those who are new will perhaps not know this member, but many will...

She was a very sweet person who loved her dogs immensely and knew so much about her breed. Her life was tragically taken, police have her husband in custody for the shooting. She leaves behind her two children, and many people both on and offline who loved her. The article if one wants to read it, is here, be warned the entire situation is VERY VERY UPSETTING:

Hey. I have been very lax in coming on here. It took some doing to find my way back via dog.com, but I'm glad my password is still active! Remember me with my Weim Frieda?
I'm having some fun remembering you guys and your pups!

I have a "remember who" question:
Does anyone recall the gal with the Italian Spinone?? I believe she was studying to be a doctor and moved (to Arizona????) with her dog.
The dog had some medical ?? problem, and I have been thinking about her because I've been reading about this breed and one thing led to another, and there I was walking down memory lane!

Our two adopted Weims, Rudi & Sophie, are still with us. Rudi tore his ACL 2 years ago and I opted not to have it surgically repaired. Was very successful in using conservative management and a brace, and he's very active again. Sophie has been causing me some concern with sporadic high liver enzymes over the past 2 years, but I've got her on a holistic regime and changed her food, so she's gained some weight and is still spunky and a pain in the neck (I love her, honest).
They are both 11.5 years old! We've had them for 6 years! Can you believe the way time flies?

I have been expanding my Frieda's Favorites dog bakery, and a few weeks ago was called by Animal Planet to bake Elwood's 3rd birthday cake to be featured in an upcoming show in September for the 2008 World's Ugliest Dog Competition. That was very exciting for me.

I hope to spend some time here, catching up to see who is still around. I really do miss you guys.
Hope you post and bring me up to date on what you've been doing.

My brain has gone dead. I can't remember who this was or what to look for.

Who here remembers the dog that got bit by a snake while hiking on rocks with his owner and little sister? The snake went to bit at the slittle sister and the dog save it....getting bit really bad himself. She used to post pictures weekly of his healing progress...and it wasn't too quickly. I remember sitting here and crying over that dog. I can't remember who it was.

Any help in finding that thread?

We don't usually get snow where I live, but we got a huge dump of it last Sunday. I have taken my dog out for bathroom breaks many times since then without any problems until today, which was a really cold one with ice everywhere now. I thought it would be better for my dog to walk on a sidewalk which had no ice, but shortly thereafter she started yelping, no though she was in terrible pain. It scared the h*** out of me ! I picked her up and carried her home, then put her in the tub and rinsed her paws off with warm water. She seemed fine afterwards but has now retired to her kennel for the evening.

I assume some sort of heavy duty deicer was the problem, but was wondering if anyone else's dog has ever reacted in the same way? Thanks.

Wondered how far the archive go back to? I am trying to find a picture that was posted by 5 Dogs several years ago...I can't get further back then 2005 or 2004. Can we go back further than that?
Same with topics...I tried to get back in the 2002 or 2003 range a while back.

Ice Melt, etc....

Are any of these or all of these products safe/unsafe to use with pet contact?

Walks, driveways, stairs...places we travel to all use this stuff to melt the icy road and walking surfaces...How safe is it for the dogs to be walking on, and probably they will lick it off of their paws.

Our community is looking into building an off leash dog park. I do not have much knowledge of dog parks. What would be some specifics that a quality dog park should include? I am curious about size…should location take into consideration possible future expansion as additional funds become available? What should the proximity to neighborhoods be? I love dogs, but I also believe in being respectful to the families that live in our community and I would really not want the dog park to interfere with the quality of their lives. Any help that you could send my way would be greatly appreciated. If we are going to build a dog park... I would like to do it right.
