We had a great couple of days on a mini-honeymoon while MIL stayed with the kids. She called with updates and said they had fun. I can tell as when we picked up both kids, they looked exhausted! They were both so happy to see daddy and their teachers said that's all they coudl talk about today was Daddy's coming home today!

So he's here. I will check the forum now and again because the kids are eager to play with him, so they have no interest in me LOL

The dogs were beside themselves, I couldn't believe it. Darby and Gobie especially love him, and Darby practically turned herself inside out when she realized who he was. Haven't seen Gobie that happy in ages, huge, huge smile, happy panting, and waggily butt. It was nice. Nice to be a family again!

I woke up at 7:50 and have to be at work by 8. I'm still not awake yet.

Last night's CU class was good and bad. Mostly just frustrating. Abbie and I are far behind everyone else in the class. The instructor pretty much won't even let us do box work because Abbie gets too worked up :( it sucks. How did I end up with a dog like this?

I have SAR training tonight but I'm toying with not going. I almost feel like Neiko needs a break or he's going to get bored. We'll see.

I cannot wait...

She'll be in my town tomorrow. I bought her book tonight and I plan on getting in line around 6am or earlier to meet her.

For any Palin supporters, you should check to see if she's coming to your area for her book tour.

Yaaaay. Sorry, I'm just extremely excited. I love politics and I think Palin is so much more capable and in touch with real Americans than the media makes her out to be.

49th birthday

A picture Mom took on my 49th birthday September 10th with Fritz.I have had this done since 2006 ,Dad was in the first one.We didn't do anything special ,we had Chicken Wings and Caesar Salad,may go out to Boston Pizza some time,we have gone there twice since to have Pizza and was very goo,brought Fritz home some to have.I am sure we will do something special on 50th birthday next ,it is Mom's 80th on June 3rd same day Fritz turns 8,she doesn't want anything special.I am sure dad and Ruffles were watching from heaven that day,sure miss them on my Birthdays.

Is it OK to contact a company, if they are not hiring?

As some of you know, I’ve started circulating my resume. There’s really not much around, but I’m in a good position right now to wait and see. I’m employed, and it’s as secure of a job as any can be. However, I’d like to find something better eventually.

This is actually a 2 part question. First – is it acceptable to send an email of interest in a company you would like to work for, but currently do not have any job openings near you? If so, should I also send my resume at the same time? The company in question is a competitor for the company I’m working at now.

This company seems to offer its employees better pay and/or benefits, which is why I’m interested. At the very least, they generally have their staff work from home offices – so I could cut out travel altogether and save quite a bit of money on car expenses like gas and wear and tear.

Secondly, could it bite me in the you know what to send such an email to a company I KNOW has made offers to my current employer to buy them out?

They currently have a job opening for a position that would be right up my alley, but it’s on the other coast =( The field I’m in currently can be very tricky to find employment in.

I’m just not sure the etiquette of all this. PLUS, I don’t want it coming back around to my current employer. That would be very very very bad.

Sister had operation

My sister had a operation on October 15th to repair a twisted bowel.Mom was with her and and her husband Larry,I was at home with Fritz.She had a pain on the Sunday during the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.She still had it on Monday so they went home,still had then so she wanted to go to the hospital.She told them there if there was to be an operation,she wanted done at St.Michael's in Toronto where she had it done before,the doctor who did it was there.It turned out the had no room there so it was down her by a doctor who had been at the other hospital at one time and knew the doctor who who did it.The operation 2 and a half -3 hours,also had one of her hernias repaired,mesh put around it.Marlene was there for another week..She is getting better,can't do too much yet.Mom went to see her every day,I would take Mom over,it was only a short drive from our house.I finally got to see here 3 days after the surgery after church with Mom.Taffy stayed here during the day would go home with Larry at night,stayed with him on the weekend.

What is the first thing you do once all your guests leave on Thanksgiving Day or what do you once you get home if you were the guest ???

For me . . . I HAVE to have "my" turkey sandwich. 2 slices really good sourdough bread, lightly toasted. Smear both slices liberally with Hellman's mayo. Add warm slices of turkey and a scoop of cold apple,saugsage and cornbread dressing. Plenty of S&P and a cold beer and my Thanksgiving is complete.

Agnes tried to make a new friend last night. Unfortunately it was with an opossum, so she had to come inside and got sent to her room. Good news, it played dead and she just stood by it looking at it and trying to sniff it. The thing was huge, so had it decided to gnash it's teeth, she'd have gotten hurt (Agnes only has a few teeth of her own). She barked at me for 10 minutes, wanting to go back out, but I stood firm.

No word back from my foster mom. I'm sure she's busy and trying to spend as much time with her dad as she can.

Did I mention we have a pig and some ducks for adoption at the shelter? Glenda, does Corky need a friend or two? LOL

Sorry to leave ya hanging Annie, I just ran out of time yesterday.

Sunday was my birthday and BF and our Priestess, Kelly (she's our pastor, but we just have fun w/ the priestess title) have been tormenting me for *weeks* that I was gonna love my birthday present, from BF. I knew it was 2 things, a part 1 and a part 2, but had NO clue what it could be. I tried guessing but was told I was completely wrong, so then I had no idea. Kelly was adament that after I opened part one I had to call her b/c that was the part she helped with. Finally we got to the restaurant and ordered so I could open my present. This was part one:

For those that don't know, I collect/trade Disney pins. We joke that its "my dork thing" and I had guessed that my gift was something Disney related, but was told I was way off base. So when I opened the box and saw that I started to turn and say "I told you it was Disney" but thankfully, before I opened my mouth, I realized there was writing and basically did a double take when I saw what it said.

About that time my brain quit working.

I turned again and he had gotten down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I would love to tell ya'll exactly what he said...but the only things I caught for sure was "Stephanie Jane ****" (and he used my maiden name, which was awesome to me) and "marry me" The rest of it got lost in the fog that was my brain. I couldn't even figure out how to speak, finally a voice in my head was like "um...answer..." and I was able to get yes out. He actually had to send the message to Kelly later b/c I couldn't type. I just kept saying "wow" and "oh my gosh" proabably about a thousand times. That and covering my mouth so I wasn't siting there like a dope w/ it hanging open :)

And b/c I know it will be demanded, here is the ring:

So yea, w/ all their teasing about how much I would love my presents...they were totally right :D

Well, Kali and I haven't really been struggling, but I've been looking for something to do with her, that is just Mommy and me stuff. She loves to read with me, but I do that will all my kids. I kinda got the idea from Gina's threads about Eli responding to the pups in a roundabout sort of way.

I dug out my old breed book. It has some great pics and most of the basic breeds, at least the common ones. I loved it when I was younger. Its basically a big picture book with bits of breed descriptions and small captions. Well, we haven't done much actual reading of it yet. She's a little young for reference stuff I think, but WOW, does she love to look at the dogs. She's trying to remember the breeds, and has Dalmation down pat. She's also found the Husky page, and pronounced that one Crusher's page. There's a Newfie in there that she's sure is Onyx... She's also gotten Rottie and Dobe with only slight prompting from me. I am trying to teach her the Great Dane breed too, but sadly, the big Dane they have pictured is a Harlequinn and she's positive its a Dalmation...sigh. Oh ya, and for the breeds that have different colors, they have silouetted dogs in the accepted colours, and we've been having fun counting them. She's getting better at it too. One, Two, Sree, Fowr, Five, Six, Eleven... Eight, Nine, TEN!!! She won't be corrected either...sigh, I figure eventually she'll bring back Seven...

Anyway, I just needed to share. I was just tickled tonight when she brought me the book again for the third night in a row and asked me to look at the Puppies with her, after Kelci had gone to bed. She's thoroughly fascinated by the dogs, and I'm so thrilled. I'm sure when I tell my parents, they'll roll their eyes and groan...but I thought you guys might understand.

Netbooks

Anyone here have a netbook and want to share your likes/dislikes about it? Any suggestions on brands to check into or stay away from? Anything that is a must have with a netbook that doesn't normally come standard?

I am seriously thinking about getting one for my 13 year old SD this year for Xmas. We are looking in the $300 range. She would use it for the internet, writing papers and I would assume storing minimal pictures and music. Am I expecting too much from one or would this be an ideal use?

I am all ears if anyone has any comments!

Hippo shot in pig hunt (some random Australian news)

For those that don't know, the Northern Territory is, obviously, in the north of Australia. The NT News is a particularly charming aspect of living in the least populated, most remote, most crocodile and poisonous snake-ridden part of the country. Here's an article that really just epitomises that part of our country, which I am rather fond of.

A PYGMY hippopotamus has been shot dead during a pig hunting expedition in the Territory.

The hippo is normally native to the swamps of west Africa, in particular Liberia.
Instead, this one - estimated to be about 250kg - was shot while roaming the bush of the Douglas Daly, 200km south of Darwin.
This is about 16,000km away from Liberia.
It is believed the female hippo is an old escapee from Tipperary Station, from when it used to be an exotic animal reserve.
This means it has been poking about the Douglas Daly for the past five years.

Nico Courtney, 27, was out spotlighting for pigs with his mate Rusty on a station in the Douglas Daly district on Saturday night.
"It was about 1am and running away from us - from the tail end it just looked like a big pig," the station worker said.
"We got out, had a look at it, and thought 'that's not a pig, it's a hippo'.
"Then we thought 'you don't get hippos in Australia'."
The pair thought it might be a baby hippo - and then naturally started wondering, as they stood in the middle of dark scrub, "where the hell" its mum and dad might be.
Mr Courtney said he rang a few mates to tell them what happened.
"They told me to go to bed," he said. "So I thought I'd better call the boss, and he said 'no it couldn't be'."
They both decided to get some shuteye and "reassess the situation in the morning".
But it was still a hippo come daylight.
Mr Courtney's boss, Gordon Coward, reckons the hoofer is from Tipperary Station.
"I heard all sorts of funny stories of break outs and people kept saying 'look out for giraffes in the paddock', but I didn't think much of them."
Tipperary Station - which is about 50km from Douglas Daly - was turned into an exotic wildlife sanctuary by its former owner, millionaire Warren Anderson.
Mr Anderson eventually began trying to sell the animals - which included rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, giraffes, zebras and deer - back in 2003 after selling his interest in the station.
But some of the planned transfers were caught up in a legal wrangle between the Territory Government and Mr Anderson.
The hippo's carcass is now being kept in a cold room at the Douglas Daly Research Farm.

Continued good thought for all ailing dogs and their humans.

My foster mom left me a message yesterday that she had to put her dad in hospice care. I was sorry to hear this, don't have all the details, but he is something like 95, so not a huge surprise. But some thoughts for her strength would be appreciated.

Meg, I think you need a personal bodyguard. I hope everyone is better today.

Babies in the Office
