    half.com?

has anyone sold anything on there?

I have a boat load of textbooks collecting dust in my room... I hate to sell them back to school because you never get what they are worth. But - I need to get rid of them before they are no good anymore! ugh.

I just bought a book off half... got a really good price, I was very pleased with myself...

now I just need info on the selling part... how's that work?

(oh, and if anyone has a chem book they'd like to sell me - I'd be your best friend forever! $202 used. ouch)

Textbook prices are so ridiculous - grrrrrrrrrr. The last few classes DH took required a specific textbook that was written by the instructor. Because he revised it every few months, we couldn't even buy a used book. What a racket.

I haven't sold anything on half.com but I have bought several books from them and was very happy with the price.

oh me too! I got my comp book off amazon last year for about $20. which was amazing... although - we ended up not using the book, so I still have it here, unopened.. Confused

My psych book was selling for $99 used at school, but I just bought it off half for $5 (plus $4 shipping). I'M SO EXCITED!

I'm nervous about the whole selling thing though...I don't know why! Maybe I'll just stick with what I know... and sell back to school. =/

Dh sold used text books.  Basically, you post them, name your price, they pay, half.com takes it cut and you ship.  It's a lot like eBay, but you don't have to pay a posting fee and it stays up there until it sells.  It's a great resource!  Just make sure to take into account all the fees before naming your price.

i have bought and sold books on half.com. i maybe got slightly more on half.com than from the textbook store, but not much.

selling is kinda like selling on ebay. only you set the price. i would assume shipping is included in the price of the book. the allowance they give for shipping isnt nearly enough to cover shipping typically.

Racket indeed!  Sometimes all they do is rephrase a couple of things and you're forced into buying a new one.  If you have to mail a book, doesn't the post office give you something called "book rate?" I think they used to.

book rate? hmm. I'll have to look into that!

they charged me shipping on my book ($4), so I'm not sure if that's to reimburse the sender? or if that's just a fee that half charges...

I like selling on half.com. I've sold a ton of textbooks on there. They pay twice a month and give you a few bucks back for shipping.

Can I have my 4000-something posts back? Pretty please?

    Re: half.com?

I just sold the last of last semester's books - you don't earn TONS of money but I HATE how much of a rip-off the bookstore is, so I mostly do it so that I don't have to sell back to them. Ha.

I ship everything USPS Media Mail - usually $4-5 - and I add on delivery conformation for $.80...I don't give the buyer the # though, since they don't pay for it. I only get the tracking number so that I can see where the book is.

media mail.... typically though... In my experience, media mail rates and first class rates are very close to the same.  at least they were the last time i shipped a book (been a while).

i decided that selling a book for a few dollars wasnt worth the trouble. donate it to a charitable org and get a tax credit. that seemed more worthwhile last year. of course, i donated a lot of stuff. ehh...
