I received this email from a friend on LI and it appears legit

We are writing to all our friends and
colleagues to ask if you know of
any family that might like to adopt the sweetest, most lovable dog we've ever
met.
We are trying to spread the word about our daughter's wonderful dog for whom we are
desperately seeking a loving home. We're on a terribly tight
timetable, making this search doubly difficult. After looking at what
we've written below, please let us know if you'd like any other
information to e-mail to any of your family, friends or colleagues who
might be interested in this unusual opportunity.
With great appreciation and all the
best,
Peter and Marge

Our daughter, Peggy, had major spine
surgery two weeks ago and was told that she must put her beloved Daphne (Daffy)
up for adoption because a push, shove or jolt during the first year or so
could seriously damage her "new" spine. The thought of giving up
Daffy is devastating and the only consolation is that we can find a loving home
for her where she will be as happy as she has been with our daughter and her
family.
Peg has always had several dogs and
assorted other pets. Daffy is currently her youngest dog. She's a gorgeous
mutt with mostly pointer and some Dane background. Peg and
our granddaughter adopted her about 18 months ago from the
North Shore Animal League. She came to be called Daffy because she was such a
hilarious, joyful puppy. She's a little over 2 years old now, weighs about 80
pounds, and is (like all of Peggy's foundlings) the most wonderfully
loving animal imaginable.
Our son-in-law sent us the
attached photos: Daffy is the large, beautiful black and white dog; Sid,
the little fat dachshund, is her "step brother". Sid was 6
years old when Daffy joined the family and, as you can see, they're best
friends. Daffy is friends with every two- and four-legged creature she
meets, including the kitten that our granddaughter adopted (with
her mother's support) when Daffy was about a year old. It's been so
much fun watching Daffy and Kitty run around the house
playing hide and seek and tag, but their games now
would pose a serious threat to Peg's physical stability.
Peggy, her husband, their
daughter, and everyone in the family are heartbroken about having to
find a new home for Daffy, but we all agree that Peggy's safe
recovery and future health must be the first consideration.
Daffy is an extremely sweet
and affectionate dog with a totally happy disposition. She
can get overjoyed and very enthusiastic with adults but,
amazingly, she is admorably restrained with small children.
She's adored by all the children who visit the house. I've personally seen
her play with a dainty 2-year old girl, a shy 5-year old boy, and a
noisy 9-year old boy and she's incredibly gentle with all of them -- she
plays with them, but she never jumps on them and they have a marvelous time
with her.
Here are the essential facts
(photos attached):
Daphne is a little over 2 years old,
mostly pointer with some Dane, black and white, about 80 pounds.
She has a sweet, happy, joyful disposition
and is always loving with all dogs, cats, people -- and she adores
children.
She is spayed, up-to-date on all shots,
and has not been sick in the year and a half since she was adopted from the North Shore
Animal League.
Daffy needs a loving home as soon as
possible. She will need to
be boarded if a home is not found by the time Peg is discharged from the rehab
hospital (which may be as soon as next week). Anyone who wants to meet Daffy
should e-mail or phone us.
