This one is ALWAYS a hit anywhere I take it.  I use blue cheese dressing instead of ranch though.

Jackie, isn't hummus (the word) from one of the Middle Eastern languages?  Maybe just try calling it mashed chick peas or garbanzo beans and see if that helps. Big Smile

One the word itself conjures up some sort of unpleasant image of well, I don't know what, but I don't like the word.  Weird, I know.

LOL - that's kind of funny but I have things I feel the same way about. You should just give it a try but if you've never had it, you might try some premade so at least you've only wasted a little money and not a bunch of time. They have a roasted red pepper hummus (again, at Trader Joes) and DH loves that stuff.

Now that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, now does it?   LOL  I am bound and determined to try some now and if we had Trader Joes, I'd be on my way there this minute. lol   Do you suppose they have mashed chick peas at Mararoni Grill?  I'll just have to let you know tomorrow....... :)

Well ... you might have to roll it out a little.  Gaaar - baaan - zo.  Kinda rolls a bit.  When I was a teenager I had a friend whose mom used to make an incredible salad of just garbanzo beans, finely snipped green onions and a bit of olive oil. You could actually just buy a couple of cans of them, smash them up to the consistency you like and add whatever you want to it.  When they're mashed up, they're used mostly as a really nutritious and low fat dip or a spread on crackers.  I'm going to make a Costco run tomorrow.  I'll try to remember to check to see if they have any.

    Re: Dip Recipes?

What's funny Joyce is that I have cooked with garbanzo beans, added them to soups, etc.  Knowing me, I have a can or two in the back of the pantry, probably expired dates......I love most any type of bean, although they don't all love me back, if you get my drift.....

Garbanzo does actually roll off the tongue and I like that word. lol  Chick peas, not so much, that sounds like something you'd feed chickens.  I'm a marketing person's nightmare or maybe their perfect test subject. lol
