Stinky spots- how can i help?

Hi my dog Mini has lately been leaving spots around the house, very foul-smelling spots. I believe they may be coming from her anal glands, but of course I cant be sure. The spots are only about the size of what a drop of water would look like on cloth, only that large, but they fill the whole room with a very nauseating odor, it's pretty hard to handle. She doesn't have any other symptoms, her eating and potty habits are not affected, she's not dragging her rear or even licking herself at all. in fact she seems to be in no discomfort, she would let us know if she was, she's very transparent. You can tell immediately when she has left a spot, and she can too, because she normally gets up and leaves the area right away. I have taken to lining the furniture with bedsheets and i have to immediately give her a thorough spongebath, the smell is so strong and lasting. This is starting to happen EVERYDAY now and I'm really worried and (though i know its not her fault and i feel bad for feeling this way) im disgusted by this. has anyone else experienced this? im going to take her to the vet on monday, i absolutely cannot go before that as much as i wish i could take her this very minute. but does anyone know how i can get this to stop? id hate to spend a lot of money at the vet if there is a way for me to handle it myself, with money being as tight as it is lately. i love my dog and i want to help her. any advice would be really great!!!!

I went thru something very similar with my dog (a lab) and had no clue what it was. I thought it was spay incontinence but with a foul smell. For various allergy reasons, we switched her to NB duck & potato and at the same time eliminated all extra treats except raw or frozen carrots. I can't tell you if it was the food change or the carrots, but it took care of the problem. I've also heard that pumpkin can help. If it's really bad though and the glands are impacted, then a vet visit might be in order anyway. I believe that some groomers will also clean the anal sacs for you, so you might save money by trying that. Ugh- I still remember how bad that smell was Ick!

Did you have to express the glands at home or did the issue just go away after the changes? I have considered pumpkin, because doesnt that firm up the *** and help express the glands? I cant imagine having to clear the sacs myself, the spots are bad enough, i dont think i have the stomach for any more! I'll have to try the carrots too, thanks for the advice!

I never expressed the glands, it just cleared up on it's own after the food change and/or carrots.

this sounds very much like anal gland leaking.  Maybe because they are really full, or maybe for another reason.

A firm stool will usually empty the anal glands without intervention.  Some dogs tho, regardless of the stool just have issues.  My cockers did.

Pumpkin is good for either end of the spectrum, too runny or too firm.  The fermentible fiber in pumpkin helps to draw the right about of liquid into the digestive tract.  I use it only as absolutely needed.  I'm not sure they can become "immune" to it, but I'm not taking any chances.  It's a godsend when I need it.

If you don't know positively how to express anal glands, I wouldn't suggest trying it.  Your vet can show you how to properly express them should the need arise again.  It's not quite AS gross if you do it during bath time.

A house without fur is not a home.

Definitely sounds like Anal Glands and please bring him to the Vet or a groomer so that they can express them.  Groomers really don't do this much anymore it is coined as a medical procedure but maybe if you look around you can find someone.  Anal glands can become infected and make you dog really, really sick.   And it is very uncomfortable for the dog too and sometimes painful.
