I think if you can pull it off, or you just plain like it better, go for it.

We (the women in my family) all have thick, black hair (me included, but I dye mine dark brown)- we're Italian! When the women in my family go grey it's pure panic, lol! My Mom, aunts, cousins, and Grandma all dye their hair and/or eyebrows black....and I will, too, when I get greys.

I have to say, the look of women with snow white hair in a chic bob cut is very classy, IMO.

    Re: Going Grey Gracefully ??????

I lucked out on one thing (geneticlly speacking): no grey hair yet!  I will be 48 on Feb 1, so I am bucking a trend.  I get this from my mom.  Mom is 70 and has about 25 grey hairs in her thick, thick auburn hair.  When her mom died at 85, she had about 100 grey hairs.  Yahoo! However, I LOVE the silver hair in a lovely cut.  I think it looks great!  I suspect that's what I will do when the time comes.

My hair dresser looks very carefully every time she cuts my hair.  She can't believe I STILL don't have any!

My sister, OTOH, takes after our dad. She was going grey at about 35 and has been coloring her hair since then.  However, she  has chosen this weird orange/blonde shade.  If I could only talk her into something a shade or two darker, she would look MUCH younger. Oh well, I love her any way!

    Re: Going Grey Gracefully ??????

My sister has never colored her hair and has greyed very gracefully. But it does make her seem older than me - we're only 15 months apart, and I do color my grey. I started getting grey hairs in my mid 20's, and it didn't bother me at all, but then as I got into my early 30's I caught sight of my hair in the rear view mirror one day with my sun roof open and went OMG, I'm going grey! And it's making me look OLD!!!!!

We meet at the gym once a week, and several times when Les has had to work late or been out of town people have asked me where my "mom" is. She has almost no wrinkles, like me, and at nearly 51 years old, a very youthful face. But because I color my grey and she doesn't, people automatically assume she's older than she is and I'm younger than I am. As you can imagine, she hates that. But it does look good on her, she gets tons of compliments on her grey hair, and it's certainly less upkeep than having your roots touched up all the time.

At some point I guess I'll give in to the aging process and go au natural, but I'm just not ready to do that yet. I think the easiest way to go would be to streak in your natural color rather than doing all your roots so it will grow in more naturally.

This how it was with my late MIL.  She was well into her 80s when she died and you could count the grey hairs on one hand.  My SIL (her daughter) is the same way.  She's 68 and you'd need a magnifying glass to see any grey.

    Re: Going Grey Gracefully ??????

I have had grey hair since I can remember it runs on my father side, his head is all white/gray and he is only 47. I love my grey hair I think it looks pretty cool and I don't mind it. I have thick long (probably around 2ft long) black hair so its nice to have some other color. I did highlights when I was in middle school and I hate those things and will never again do it. I do plan to dye my tips though either red or green (I'm weird I know) but don't plan to dye it full, I just don't dig dyeing my hair.

I started going grey when I was 13 and I'm 24 this year. Lol. I don't dye my hair since I've got 4 different colors (naturally) in my hair already, what's one more.

Now my dad is only 40 (I think) and if he didn't have his beard, he'd be pitch white. I like to bug him. Devil

What about Henna? I don't know how much it costs in the U.S., but two of my friends dye their roots with that. They told me is safe, cheap and easy to use... maybe that will help?

I don't know what I would do... I like my hair long, curly and natural for now, but the genetics say veeeeery white in the future. I only have one white hair in my head and I have it since I was a toddler and I see it a couple of times a year, my mom told me once that I should take care of that single strand, so I will not have more ~lol~

    Re: Going Grey Gracefully ??????

Deb, I decided to let the grey take over...

I too was tired of getting color done so often...

I have brown hair and usually colored it red or copper, so the last color I did was close to my natural color and just

let it grow in from there...

My hair dresser keeps trying to get me to color it, but I just think she would prefer the money in her pocket, than in mine...

Most of the women in my family did something about their grey.  Although one of my grandmas is grey the other two had their hair dyed up to their passing.  My mom had "dishwater blond" hair and she gets highlights done and it seems to blend out the greys that are coming in.

My mom does the blond thing too. I'm not grey at all yet, but I'm sure I will go grey early from the stress, a lot of my male counterparts at work have gone grey in the last few years. They will have to pry the hair dye out of my cold dead hands.....
