If I'm not enjoying something with my dogs or it's not safe, I think it's my responsibility to find a way to accommodate the dogs and my expectations.  Dogs don't hate - why should we?

Who's hating?  No one is complaining about children being somewhere they should or shouldn't be, it's about their parents bringing them somewhere, putting them in danger, and then FIGHTING with SENIOR CITIZENS when told that it's dangerous, they're breaking the rules and they should leave.  And yeah, dogs do hate.  WOOBIE HATES CHILDREN!  He also hates fruit, squirrels and rainy  days that make him wet.

The responsible dog owners are finding ways to accommodate the dogs, their expectations and the idiots.  They're working to formulate a way to keep their dog park safe, open and deal with idiotic parents who don't feel that rules apply to them.  What is ridiculous is to expect that because people are choosing to ignore the rules and put their children at risk, we should walk away and find somewhere else to exercise and socialize our dogs.  That's like saying that because there are drunk drivers, unlicensed drivers and reckless drivers on the roads, we shouldn't complain, we should just take up cycling on the sidewalks!  PUHLEASE!

and park visitors (even those without dogs) have come to view the park as a petting zoo and bring their kids in to "visit the doggies!"  Ugh.  .  Sad

Oh Dear, I'm sorry but this is so ridiculous its laughable! You'd think evolution would include more common sense, LOL.

I wonder how well park patrons would take to a volunteer goverening play. I hope some wacko's dont take it upon themselves to start regualting the dog park.

ETA: The people and community wouldnt need so much supervision if they learned to behave and use common sense. I dont understand why its so hard for peole to understand that

I think that's why the county is setting up the committee, to try to come up with solutions that won't make things worse.  If idiot parents are fighting with seniors (and it has gotten physical, shoving, yelling, etc.) I worry about those same seniors being harmed as a volunteer.  But, if they have the backing of park officials and the police, rather than just being another patron mouthing off, maybe that would make the message more "official" if you will.

Exactly!  What's so frustrating is that parents will ask if their child can approach and pet your dog outside the fence, but inside, all bets are off.  I think it is a matter of education in some cases, but when parents ignore warnings that their child could be hurt and then get physical with the warner???  And this wasn't just a one off, apparently, it's been happening more and more, with male parents who resent being told anything!

It's particularly important here in VA with our dangerous dog statutes.  One bad incident and a dog could end up with harsh restrictions and the owner strapped with very expensive requirements to keep the dog, including kennels, muzzles, and 100K insurance policies.  That's why I stopped going and if I see a child approach, we leave.  With Woobie's fear, I'm just not taking the chance.
