Hey, I think I will do the yogurt too.  Boric acid shouldnt hurt her eyes, you dilute it in water , its a common ingredient in eye drops, its also a main ingredient in commercial products like angel eyes.  Here is some more info about it from wikipedia:

     "Medicinal

It can be used as an antiseptic for minor burns or cuts and is sometimes used in dressings or salves or is applied in a very dilute solution as an eye wash in a 1.5% solution or 1 tbsp per quart of sterilised water. As an anti-bacterial compound, boric acid can also be used as an acne treatment. Boric acid can be used to treat yeast and fungal infections such as candidiasis (vaginal yeast infections) by inserting a vaginal suppository containing 600 mg of boric acid daily for 14 days (PMID 10865926). It is also used as prevention of athlete's foot, by inserting powder in the socks or stockings, and in solution can be used to treat some kinds of otitis externa (ear infection) in both humans and animals. The preservative in urine sample bottles (red cap) in the UK is boric acid."

Probably more info than you need there.

The white vinegar and baking soda is a good idea too.  I just got back from the pet store where I got a water bottle for dogs (a version of the hamster bottle) to keep her hair from being wet all the time from drinking water.  Anyone think thats a good idea?  I saw it as a suggestion on some shih tzu sites.

ETA:  I really appreciate all the input.  Thanks for the advice on ears too! :)

I looked into this at one time and decided against it. Someone had posted some really good info as to why water bottles are *not* good alternatives for dogs. Dogs need to lap water and water bottles do not allow their mouths and tongues to work properly to get enough water sufficiently. Sorry, not verbatim..... It can be a major pain in the ars constantly drying their mouths off...it seems like every time I get cozy on the couch or go into the other room Abbie will get a drink, so I now keep a hand towel by the couch, my bed, etc..... I just can't stand them dripping water all over the place or on my bare feet which is exactly what Abbie loves to do to let me know she needs me!! :) I got these two metal hooks that stick to the outside of the lower cabinet. One hand towel is for the dogs mouths and the other is for us for dishes, hands, etc. One day I was busy around the kitchen and didn't notice Abbie get a drink... she then came around the corner and, on the correct towel, wiped her mouth up against it!!! I wish I had my camera right then. My daughter refuses to believe me!! I'm thinking Abbie does this when I'm gone too becuz when I get home her face looks great!!!! Dogs are so resourceful!!!! :)

    Re: Stinky face

i use water bottles for my dogs and i never had a problem with them not drinking enough... they drink just as much as they did before... only now i know ALL of the water that "disappears" is going into my dogs, as opposed to before where a part would end up on moca's ears, around the water bowl (from bumping it) and on my floor (from playing in it...).

i think it really depends on the dog.. since you bought the thing already you might as well give it a try and see if she gets enough water intake...

If you try the water bottle, please let me know how it goes. I may give it a try.

I am worried about that too, about her not getting enough water.  If I had to drink from a water bottle I think I would go crazy from thirst waiting for it come out a drop at a time.  I think a dog would also get bored and stop drinking before he/she got enough to drink.  Well I will try and see if I can even get her to use it but I won't take a the water bowl.  That is awesome about your dog using the towel!!
