Callie!!I think I made her sick (Willow)

I think I overdid the milk thistle!  I had been giving her two capsules and then maybe another later on.  This morning I went to give her two and I dropped some.  So, I added a third.  I think I might have overdid it because all day she's got gas and she's nauseous.  She vomited once, normal poop. She's drinking and she did eat some babyfood when I got home around 10.

She doesn't seem in pain, she's resting.

Could it be the milk thistle??

I've seen that you do have to go slow on milk thistle, like many supplements.  I wasn't following closely or I would have mentioned that, sorry.  Sad

Also, she has IBD right?  Or at least suspected?  Pred would, as a bonus thing, help that temporarily.  Reducing the dose may reduce her trigger threshold for a while (her immune/inflammatory response are compromised).  You are right to be extra careful.  It's okay, she'll be fine when her system comes back on line.  Just take it nice and slow.

I'm still wondering now about the alcohol and Ben's liver.  He seems fine but I'm a nervous nellie about setting back his recovery.  I'm using the HerbPharm product too.  It seems wonderful but I wasn't thinking about the alcohol until I tasted it.  Argh.

    Get better Willow!

No the milk thistle shouldn't have done anything negative -- remember what you're using it *for*.  The milk thistle is used simply because these meds ARE so toxic and can cause liver/kidney problems.  (And either of those can cause nausea!)

*IF* the nausea persists you need to see the vet.  It can be sheer stress or just the day that can cause tummy upset.  Giving more of the milk thistle is truly better not something that would *cause* upset.   The upset itself is more likely to be the body developing some intolerance to the drugs. (yes, even on wean off)

Becca -- I thought about the *same* thing when I was using it for Billy -- would the alcohol be bad?  And the vet told me it shouldn't be a problem (even at the huge doses I was using - and she *knew* how much I gave him).  In that case she told me the alcohol actually helps the milk thistle be better at what it's doing in the body.

Thanks guys!  She's doing much much better today. She's back eating and seems fine.  It could of been anything at all that set her off.  You guys see why I'm so leary to try anything new with her, LOL???  I think she's fine now.  I was going to take her in if she still wasn't feeling well today but I don't think that's needed at this point.

    Thanks.

The only things that have changed for her that if it was something we are giving her were milk thistle, we've been adding water to her canned food and her Prednisone was reduced.  It's a fairly low dose compared to what she's been on only 40mg total a day and she's 48 lbs.

Emmy LOVED the milk thistle; I think she might be a bit of a closet lush! XD

    Keep improving, Willow!
