    Bad Habits

    Confession time!

    What are your bad habits?

I am abominably lazy.  I am terrible at making myself do housework and I am HOEPLESS at getting out of bed in the morning.  I am also dreadfully scatterbrained.  The last couple of weeks or so I've developed a new worst habit... leaving cupboard doors open.  It drives DH mad.  He thinks its the height of laziness, but actually I'm usually trying to do too much multi tasking.  I have my hands full and I think to myself "oo I need such and such out of there so...." and then I move on to something else.

What's yours?  Come on fess up...

    Re: Bad Habits

I hate cleaning too! Once in a while I'll be in a mood to get things all sparkly and squeaky clean but that's pretty much once in a blue moon lol.

So my worst bad habit is that I'm a HUUUGE procrastinator. For instance, I had a big essay due one day last year for my AP U.S. History class. We had to read the Autobiography of Malcolm X which is a pretty long book, 400 - 500 pages of small small print, lol. We were assigned the essay and reading a month or so in advance. The night before the essay was due I still had some 300 pages to read and the entire essay to write. I didn't go to sleep until 5am and got up at 6:15 for school.

Although now I'm getting much better at doing things in advance and not waiting til the last minute - I've realized how much stress it prevents!

I'm not a morning person either, Chuffy.  I'm only up early on a weekend now because I have to go get stuff for the puppy to take with us.

I'm not a neat-freak ... not at all.  Anything that requires tidying is a major effort for me.

    Re: Bad Habits

I don't leave cupboards open, but I have a bad habit of not putting lids back on tightly. I'm not sure why, other than I just get in a hurry and don't want to bother with it. It's usually been DH who's found out the hard way, by dumping whatever it was all over the kitchen floor Embarrassed

    Re: Bad Habits

I think Jeremy would say my bad habit is I'm too much fo a neat freak Embarrassed I vacuum at least once a day. I'm always cleaning our bathroom and kitchen (both all white, with a fiance that works on boats and a black dog I don't know what I was thinking). I need everything in it's "place" (ie: where I put it), and if Jeremy moves it I get pretty annoyed (even though I know I shouldn't).

IMO, my bad habit is not calling anyone back!

My husband would definitely say the same thing. He calls it "nesting" and what annoys him the most is when I move his stuff around and he can't find it. I try to take advantage of the days he's working and get my major housecleaning done. If the house is dirty/messy, it's really hard for me to relax. Yeah, and have a big black dog makes for a never ending need to clean and vacuum - ugh!

    Re: Bad Habits

    • I'm a "picker", I pick blisters, scabs, nail polish...
    • I sometimes twirl my hair when I'm nervous
    • I chew (not bite off) my nails
    • I have a hard time see how there can be more than one right way to do something
    • I get really annoyed when people are indecisive over things that don't really matter, or tell me one thing and do another, like tell me they want to go see a movie and then change their plans last minute...that kind of stuff pisses me off really easily
    • I speed when driving
    • I don't think this is a bad habit, but my college roommates hated it when I'd just rinse dishes.  If I'm just drinking a glass of water, I see no point in wasting energy, water, and soap by putting that sort of thing in the dish washer.  I rinse it with hot water and put it in the drying rack.

    Re: Bad Habits

i'm a procrastinator too. but i also work more effeciently when i am under pressure. it's more fun that way!

not a morning person either. i have issues with going to bed on time and even more issues with getting up early. if it was up to me, i'd sleep about 12 hours a day! thank god the dogs are the same!

i am extremely lazy too! but i'm getting better about it!

and i hate calling people. i call my BF a lot, but that's about it. i almost never call my friends, i message them instead. and work calls - ARGH i hate making work calls... email or messaging is so much better...

oh and i'm an eater! i am almost always hungry, or want something to eat! and when i'm eating i over eat. i just dont know when to stop. and even if i catch myself and know i should stop, i cant. i love food! Embarrassed

    Re: Bad Habits

I always assume that its someone elses fault without really even thinking about it. So that makes me feel stressed and the other person is hurt.

I leave the dishes undone ALOT. They just sorta pile up and then a dish ends up falling and breaking or my kitchen is a big smelly mess.

    Re: Bad Habits

Liesje, I'm a picker too!  And I also frequently just "rinse" glasses and stuff under the tap.

I also find it REALLY hard to relax when the place needs tidying/cleaning, which means I rarely relax properly because I always procrastinate and put the cleaning off!  So I have the worst of both worlds.  I *wish* I was a neater person.  Then I would live in a nice clean house and feel OK to relax in the evenings and weekends.... I'm hopeless!

    Chuffy:

LOL! Apparently I do that too. I really don't see what the big deal is though. Hmm

I am probably the worst procrastinator on the planet. Right now in fact I'm procrastinating big time. I need to shower and clean my room (oh yeah, I'm really messy too), buuuut instead I'm here on the computer.

And yeah, messy.. there are three dishes sitting in front of me right now (on the computer desk!) from yesterday..along with several pieces of trash... And my bedroom floor is covered with clothes (but I only have like 4 shirts and 3 pairs of pants that I ever WEAR, so what all these clothes are DOING there, I have no clue!), dog hair, lots of socks...dog hair...a little trash..more dog hair...I haven't vacuumed my bedroom in probably 2 months, LOL. Luckily Cherokee only just started really shedding, so it's not as bad as it would be if I stopped vacuuming NOW... oh yeah, I HATE vacuuming. Hate it. I don't know why I hate it so much.

I'm also ridiculously forgetful sometimes... Just last night I was supposed to pick up my aunt at 7 pm, about an 8-10 minute drive from my house..I totally forgot, got side-tracked on the computer, and walked out of my house at 7:10... and I couldn't find my cell phone, so I couldn't even call her...

Which brings me to another thing..even if I don't forget, I'm usually late to whatever I'm going to. If I really NEED to be on time, I have to aim for like 15 minutes early..and then I might get there on time. lol

And I'm really terrible at keeping in touch with people, mostly because I feel stupid calling anyone if I don't have much to say, and I don't often have much to say, so I just don't call anyone. Tongue Tied It's not so bad for family, because we always have those ties and really I could call up anyone in my family without it being too awkward, but for friends? Not so good. I've only been able to consistently hold onto 1 or 2 good friends at a time since I was like 8 and we all lived in the same neighborhood.

    Re: Bad Habits

I am hopeless at getting out of bed too. I hit snooze as many times as possible.

I am also a picker. I pick nails, I pick scabs, blisters, zits. I also chew my nails and fingers. I like the feeling of pressure on my fingers. Sometimes I bite my nails too.

Actually, I think I do most of the things listed already, except leaving cupboards open. I don't do that. Nor am I a neat freak. Other than that, I probably do it.

The habit that currently causes me the most grief is not putting my car keys back in my purse when I get out of the car.  I just  slip the ring over a finger and carry them that way and they often slip off in one of the produce bins  in  the grocery store.

I'm a picker, too. I've had to really fight to not pick Ena's skin.

I am also chronically late. This morning, I was supposed to be at my friend's house at 5:30 to leave for a dog show. At 5:30, I woke up. Ouch.

Annnnd I talk really, really fast. Especially if I'm nervous. People hit me, occasionally.

    Re: Bad Habits

    • I am a morning person.  I wake up around 5:00 am, & I am immediately bouncing off the walls.  DH isn't a morning person, so he really considers this a bad habit.
    • I'm a neat freak.   We have roombas that vaccuum daily, on each floor of our house because dirt, & dog hair on the floors make me crazy.  I can't sleep if there are dirty dishes in the sink or dishwasher.  It just bothers me...
    • I'm very organized.  I will stress out over minor things that reallyshouldn't stress me.  (We are organizing a luau, & I have stressed all weekend over what kind of flower we will use for the women to put behind their ears.  The florist that we are using isn't open on the weekend, so it isn't like I could order them even if I had made a decision.)
    • I am rarely return personal calls.  I intend to, but I put it off, & then decide not to return the call because I feel that I have waited too long to do so.  I do the same with emails as well.
