    Whats in your Salad?

I've recently rediscovered Raspberry Vinigrette.  And Trail Mix.  I cut up whatever lettuce happens to be cheapest, usually Romaine, today I got baby spinach!  I throw in Mushrooms, Cucumbers, and sliced Strawberries, a handfull of mixed nuts, or trail mix, and the dressing.  Its been a craving lately.

I also keep a coleslaw in my fridge on the weekends.  I just use a bag of it, and Kraft Coleslaw dressing, then I add in Sunflower Seeds, Ichiban noodles raw, and slivered almonds.  I was never a fan of coleslaw until I tried it like this.  Now I crave it too.

So....whats in your salad?  Does anyone make a different kind of salad that I might like to try?  Do you make homemade dressings?

    Candace

Isn't that raspberry vinegarette amazing stuff?  I like the mixed greens (Spring Mix) w/grape tomatoes, slivered almonds, craisins, maybe some grapes.  Sometimes I make a Caprese salad - slices of tomatoes alternating with slices of mozzarella cheese w/basil leaves between them and drizzled with a little olive oil. Now I'm making myself hungry.

    Re: Whats in your Salad?

A couple of years back I found a secret ingredient that makes any salad extra yummy. I use it in a regular garden salad, tuna salad, egg salad and my family favorite - hard salad (tomato, cucumber, celery, peppers). The little additive is cauliflower. It has a wonderful peppery flavour and a delightful crunch. It's amazing how it just makes any salad soooo good. I also use this great dressing - Brianna's Vinegarette.

It's Called Bwana's Kitchen Sink Salad

A Huge favorite at parties and dogs shows , I have yet to have any left overs when I serve this one...

So I use baby spinach and mixed field greens, Add diced avocado, diced red onion,  grapefuit sections (pink) , dried cranberries, pecans and real bacon bits ( never the fako stuff yech) if I have fresh mushrooms I slice a few in and then I add crumbled freshly boiled eggs.

I prefer the rasberry vinegerette or a great simple French dressing  I learned in Toulouse,  tblpsn Grey Poupon, 1/2 cup olive oil and 2/3 cup red wine vinegar. Blend and toss with the salad for a great tangy dressing.

i'm sorta gina style...with a huge serving of full fat bleu cheese :)

my favorite salad ever though is from Rafferty's. It's regular lettuce and has seasoned chicken tenders, tomatoes, eggs, potato sticks, bacon, and hot bacon and honey mustard dressing. Holy cow it's delightful!!

ETA: forgot to mention rafferty's salad has cheese!

I also like seasoning salt on my salads

I'm a 'normal' salad person... lol.

as little lettuce as possible, cucumbers, ham, cheese, green olives, carrots topped with ranch. I don't like too much variety in my salads =]

Wow, with the scorching temps here, this is a good thread with some great ideas. I pretty much throw in everything I have in my crisper, but I'm happiest if I have avocado in it. I prefer balsamic vinegar based dressing.

That's pretty much me too!  Somehow I always get made the person to bring salad b/c a lot of people really like them.  Lately, I found this awesome dressing.  It is a Newman's LF Sesame Ginger vinegarette.

I like mixed baby lettuce that had red leaves in it too or spring mix.  I add artichokes,  mushrooms, cucumber, grape tomatos, craisins, pine nuts, feta cheese, sliced italian peppers, olives, sometimes some raw zuchini and whatever else I have that sounds good.

I have also been know to make taco salad with lettuce, tomato, corn, avacado, black beans, ground beef or shrimp on top with catalina dressing.

Now I want some salad, a greek one to be specific!

    Re: Whats in your Salad?

Mmmmmm a greek salad or a simple Olive garden one!!!!!  I'll be stuck with carnivores this weekend so salads are on the short list. My friend makes a steak salad that is wonderful romaine lettuce, strips of grilled steak,  french fries, tomatoes, a bit of onion and what ever dressing the person eating it wishes.

I am the only one in my family that likes pickled beets. But ALL of us love artichokes, I may see if we can hit a grocery before we pull into the dog show and pick up a couple. I haven't had one in ages!

    Re: Whats in your Salad?

I personally think raspberry tastes like soap Stick out tongue.  I'm more of the Thousand Island, Ranch, Catalina, Italian kind of girl.  Cheddar's Cafe puts this honey lime dressing on their Hawaiian chicken salad that's really good but I haven't been able to find anything in stores that is remotely close.

I like basic salads.  Guess I'm a wierdo for liking lots of lettuce, usually red leaf or romaine.  Carrots, cucumber, purple onion, lots of tomatos, egg, turkey if it's available on the salad bar, cheese, sometimes celery, squash, sometimes croutons, sometimes apple chunks or pineapple...

Just FYI, Wendy's has some really good fast food salads.  Other good salad restaurants: Cheddar's (which has good everything) and Cracker Barrel.
