Coffee [C] Earth seems upset lately

    Having a thoughtful moment...

The cyclone and tornados...now this Chinese earthquake. I have to say this has been a bad patch of late. Just hoping the survivors receive the things they need to make it thru and that recovery and aid is on the way to all. So sad about the HUGE losses esp in the cyclone and earthquake. I feel very lucky myself and mine are safe this day...and I am grateful as can be for same.

Just wondering if anyone else had noticed the current temper of the globe and seeing if it's affected anyone perspective on things.

I'd been feeling that way even before I heard about the earthquake in China this morning.  Man, it really does make you appreciate just waking up and having a run of the mill day when you see what so many others are facing. I too hope that the survivors are getting all the aid they need.

    Re: Earth seems upset lately

Mother earth was pretty kind to me as of late.  We had a storm back in December that broke a couple of posts on the privacy fence.  I propped it up but I knew if another like storm would hit, it would topple and then what am to do about the dogs.  Can't easily just replace the post so I looked at different ways to anchor the base.  Finally figured out a way and sure enough the next day 35 mph winds hit.  The fence remained standing.

I sure have noticed!!! I made a comment to my co-workers just morning. It has been a "weird" spring to say the least. The devastation from the cyclone and now this tragic earthquake in China. So very sad.

I admit I am a bit upset about the Myanmar aid being "appropriated' by thier gov't and branded with General's names like they had anything to do with it. Then restricting where aid can go and when...my my my...I feel so bad for those people.

Our government handled Katrina very poorly...but I don't know if even we could top the amount of political manuevering that's being attached to something as simple and vital as bags of rice and clean water...*sigh*

    Re: Earth seems upset lately

I was just noting the same thing Gina.  When I pulled up MSN to catch the latest headlines I saw the China earthquake and thought Ding Ding, round two, score Mother Earth two, Asia zero.  TKOs nonetheless.  My heart goes out to those left to pick up the pieces.  May the ruling parties put aside their egos and allow aide for as long as needed.

As much as it seems like our Earth is angry, I'm a firm believer that these periods of destruction are cyclical.  Perhaps a hundred years ago there were vicious weather patterns not unlike those of today.  Population growth(!) allows for greater damage and loss of life but the storms themselves are more or less the same.  Hopefully our fellow man will continue to find bigger and better ways of avoiding such catastrophic losses, no matter the threat.

Yeah, it's a little scary.  I'm a little worried overall that this is a sign of impending catastrophe...and that Mother Earth is trying to tell us something.  Confused  Yep, I'm a chicken (there, I said it).

And to think I've complained about cold weather or "too much" snow.  In the big scheme of things, my little Cabbage Patch is a pretty safe place.

Yep. And not only that but the temper of the globe seems to be affecting a lot of my canine and equine clients...a lot of them are ill or are on their way out.

In 1976, the earth was a lot more ticked off.  250,000 died in China from that earthquake.

    From the International Herald Tribune-
    http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/05/12/asia/13china.php

I might be a little nervous about this:

"China's massive Three Gorges Dam, located a few hundred miles east of the earthquake's epicenter, reported no immediate problems. "There were no signs that the earthquake has affected the dam, and everything is going as usual," Hu Xinge, an executive with the state-owned corporation operating the dam, told Xinhua."

While we have not had the numbers of casualties as they have in Asia, we have had several horrible tornadoes (scare the parc out of me) and other "wierd" things. The sink hole in TX to name one.

I just want it to quit raining. I'll take the rain if we don't have the other disasters.

I've noticed it, too. There's also a volcano in Chile that's shooting ash some 20 miles up and that seems about to erupt. Apparently it hasn't blown for some 900 years so I'm sure everyone living near it had put it out of their  minds. I was just thinking this a.m that if the military junta in Myanmar doesn't allow the food, water & medicine into the country, maybe we could ship it to China if they're in need. It seems kind of silly to have it just sitting in warehouses somewhere.
