What's the consensus on using organs from wild game, like deer, elk, etc?  My brother in law hunts and I don't think he does anything with all of that stuff other than dispose of it.  Would it be harmful in some way that I wouldn't want to use it?  I just thought it would be nice to get all of the organs from a deer and stockpile.

Organs from game ruminants are fine - check with your local fish and wildlife rep to see what diseases or parasites game carries in your area.  There's a prion infection similar to mad cow that deer can get, but it's very localized and the fish and wildlife people are highly aware of where it is.  In other areas, feeding raw liver might be problematic due to a parasite, but again your game warden will know of the risk.

The tripe you buy in supermarkets is NOT the kind of tripe you feed to your dogs.  RAW TRIPE is not approved by the FDA or USDA for human consumption and is therefore not available in any supermarket / grocery store / butcher shop. Tripe sold in supermarkets is usually bleached and boiled and devoid of any of the "good stuff" that provides nutrition ... ie the raw stomach contents, grains, enzymes, etc.  Alot of the raw looking stuff  marketed as tripe is not tripe at all but INTESTINES....usually marketed with the Hispanic foods. R aw tripe , by law has to be sold specifically for pets and  clearly marked NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.   Just thought you'd like to know.

My local Walmart has beef sweetbreads, but my crew won't eat it.
