I call DH the "Town Crier," because every night when he comes through the door, he announces what the gas price was at the station he passed on his way TO work, and what it was when he passed it on his way HOME. Believe it or not, it changes by a cent or two most days. He's obsessed with gas prices. I couldn't tell you what the exact price is -- it's around $3.60 or so.
The bottom line is I need to put gas in my car regardless, so I try not to focus on the actual price (I have enough anxiety!). I do what I can to conserve in ways that I can control: I plan my errands to coincide with my route from work, I try to keep my speed consistent, no heavy-footed "take-offs," etc. My car is just OK when it comes to MPG, so I'm grateful that my office is less than 10 miles from my house, and I don't do as much driving as many people do. I figure if I were really concerned, I'd take the bus to work or buy a more fuel efficient car. At some point, it may come to that, but for now I just get my reports from the Town Crier, and thank him for the daily report!
