    Eight Belles and Others

This thread is a tribute to all the horses with heart.  They give their all because we humans ask it of them, and many of them die because of it, as this filly did today at the Kentucky Derby.  May she have no pain and the greenest of meadows in which to gallop at the Bridge  I'd like to remember the following horses who had lots of heart, whether they were ever on the track, and whether they died tragically or not.  Add names to the list as you see fit.

Thoroughbreds: Eight Belles, Barbaro, Ruffian, Restless Action (wish I could have afforded to buy you back then, sweetie), TV Girl, Glorious Combat, Steel Viking

Appaloosas: High Seas Sunrise, Harbormaster (these were my own - RIP my loves), Maude, Ditto Top Hat

    Quarter Horse: Irish

Regional Director for Massachusetts, International Positive Dog Training Association
    Director, SeniorCare Pawsitive Connections Program

    AKC CGC Evaluator #3669
    Therapy Dogs, Inc. Tester/Observer

    Sioux, CGC, TDInc.
    Maska, CGC, TDInc.
    Sequoyah, CGC
Fergie, Retired Lap Dog, Age 19
Dancer, CGC, TDInc. (1989-2006) #1 Heart Dog

"If you talk to the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them and what you do not know, you will fear. What one fears, one destroys." - Chief Dan George

"The fidelity of a dog is a precious gift demanding no less binding moral responsibilities than the friendship of a human being. The bond with a true dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth can ever be." ~ Konrad Lorenz

QHx: Rusty and Zoe, and TB Lips, for sticking around so long into their old, old age and helping us student learn how to handle horses, putting up with our bumbling attempts at blood draws, and always being patient.

Very sad... Poor little girl... Another victim of human entertainment...

I will keep my opinion about "horse sports" to myself,  though.

Appendix QH: Quadros.  My first horse, who taught me so much and put up with me when I was an inexperienced young kid.  Who lived his life teaching others and was able to have a happy retirement with a loving owner (my trainer).  Moonblindness got him relatively young, and I imagine he can see just fine at the Bridge romping with all his buddies.  Run free sweet boy.
