Groenendael (Belgian Shepherd) needs home soon

This was in today's paper (4/30)

"Belgian Sheepdog for adotpion.  Onyx is a Groenendael.  Due to present adverse situations, I can no longer care for him and urgently need to find a good home for this obedience trained outdoor dog.  Shelters are not taking any more dogs and this may mean a final outcome for Onyx. If you are looking for a good dog, please give him his chance.  $100 donation to ASPCA (919)744-0845"

This was in the News Observer paper which is the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of NC

I haven't Gina - if you know some one or are happy to 'poke around' that would be great I am insanely busy for the rest of this week so it would be good to know someone was on it.  I also sent a PM to Brookcove because I thought she might know someone.

    Karen

I just sent an email to the link you provided

awesome Yes hopefully someone with rescue can contact this person, or knows the breeder and can help the pooch land someplace safe after being tossed to the curb by it's owner.

got this back from the rescue

    Hi Karen,

Thank you for letting us know.  We have repeatedly tried to work with this woman with rescue to no avail.

Already got a reply and doesn't sound good: "We have tried to get this women to work with rescue and she refuses.  Thank you for letting us know." Can't believe that she'd rather the dog be PTS at the shelter than given to BSCA rescue!

hmm...wonder if they can send someone "non rescue" in, and get the dog that way?

bizarre isn't it - I would think/hope the rescue has tried to be creative

Very bizarre.  Makes me wonder her real intentions here....

In defense of belgian rescues (I dont think the earlier post was meant negatively) these folks (as other breed rescue and all breed rescue) are some of the most creative, hard working , free thinking, personal money spending folks in the world.  However, they do require some specific things from an owner surrender.  If the owner wont budge and accept the rescue conditions, then be assured chances are the owner is trying to maintain a level of control that is not possible.  (or has some other agenda)

My post was in reference to the current dog's owner, not the rescue.

Why would someone spend the money on a Groenendael, and on obedience training, and keep it outside? Then... give it away? I am puzzled. I luuurve Belgian Shepherds, but they're too much dog for me.

I was also wondering if someone couldn't go get the dog, and turn it over to rescue.....

The rescue contact said she has spent hours trying to work something out with this woman, people have gone to the house to see the dog but the woman isn't willing to do the required paperwork (I'm guessing she won't legally sign the dog over to someone else for whatever reason).
