Holy cow - that's one BIG dog! (sharismom)

Went to the vet this morning with Bear for an ear check and annual heartworm test.  Everything okay, Bear goes in the truck to wait for me while I pay.  I was standing at the desk when out of another exam room came the biggest dog I've ever seen - a purebred Irish Wolfhound.  I've seen them on TV, in dog books, but never in person.  All I can say is WOW!

I just wanted to share that.

Oooh, I love wolfhounds!  I eagerly anticipate the day when I can finally meet one in person.  I know someone on another (not dog related) board who has them, and I hope someday we'll meet up so I can meet them.

when i was a little wimpy third grader i had my first ever cheer leading practice at some girl's house.... never been there before. when i opened the car door it was suddenly filled with something BIG AND HAIRY!!!

it was an wolfhound Big Smile since i met that one i always wanted one.  i love love love  this breed. but i dont know if i could ever bring myself to owning one. not with the risk of it only living three years pain free.... maybe if i could find a wolfhound mix.... but even then its risky.

There is one that is always at the dog park when we go. He's awesome, I just cannot get over his size!  He's practically face to face with me (I'm only 5'2" though).

One of my friends in highschool had 2 of them.  Dillan and Grey.  Dillan was a male and he was huge!  Grey came first and I thought she was huge, untl they got Dillan. LOL.  Grey's registered name was Falcore Grey Colleen.  The look so much like the Good Luck Dragon, Falcore on the Never Ending Story, and apparently Colleen is Irish for Girl.  And well....she was grey.

We used to walk them in parades for school.  Once we sprayed them Purple for some reason or other.  And one time some crazy chick brought her puppy, and another friend and I had the dogs out in the back of the school while the friend that owned them ran inside for something or other.  The girl put her tiny puppy down on the ground across the parking lot and both dogs took off towards it.  It scared the crap out of us, cause we had absolutely no idea if they wanted to eat the puppy or play with it.  And 2 skinny high school kids were just no match for 300 pounds of dog on a mission.  Luckily(maybe) the girl picked her pup up and got back into her truck.

Yeah, they're HUGE!!  A person in my neighborhood has 3!!!!!  I pass their house on my walks every night, and I see them being walked on my walks.

I love IW. I dont think I would ever own one though becuase of the life span. There is actually quite a few at the dog park I go to. A older lady I "hang out" with the most at the dog park has had them all her life. and actually imported some over from irleand when she moved here. She has a almost 1 year old IW. She is MASSIVE. at 10 weeks old was just a hair under Blazes size (and he is 21 inchs at the sholder) She used to have a old one, she passed away last summer at the old age (for a IW) a age 8. So sad. there lives are so short.
