  same breed of dogs Reply Contact Do most of you stick to just one breed of dog? Or do you have all different breeds? I cant imagine getting the same breed after my baby dies, it would remind me of her to much and I dont know if i could take it. When my puppy I'm training as a service dog leaves I know I'll be crying my eyes out and every poodle I see will remind me of her and will make me sad. I love the breed but cant see me getting another one because it will make me miss her to much.

  Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact   I have never owned the same breed twice although I have loved and admired each breed I have had the pleasure of owning. For me the passing on one of my dogs has always made it difficult to get another dog that looks just like the one who passed. The second reason for me is that there are so very many breeds that I love and admire and I will never be able to have the pleasure of owning all of them but at least I will be able to know a few of them.   Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact corgichik -- I'm the same way.  The only two I've had of the 'same' breed were Muffin and Billy.  both were not only English cockers but both buffy coats.  this was Muffin And Billy Incredibly different personality -- I used to leave Muffin's coat longer because he was often cold (even in Flooor-daaa) but ... Billy gets groomed differently thank goodness. We like having a different breed every time -- soo much to experience that way.  I love getting to know a new breed and finding out what makes different breeds "tick" and how to learn to deal with them.  It's fun!

  Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact  as a kid my family always owned either pure bred Dobermans or pure German Shepherds or mixes of the two as well as hunting beagles. and that hasnt changed. my dad is still a shepherd and beagle man, my brother is a shepherd and weimeraner man, my sister is a shepherd girl and my other sister is a collie freak like her mom.... my mom loves her Dobermans and Shepherds AND her collies.... my grandmother and her husband are the ones that got me started on the bulldogs when i was a baby. they owned hunting beagles too but no shepherds, collies, or any other breeds. just the two working dog breeds that actually worked. as i got older and got to actually CHOOSE the dog i wanted (anything but a bulldog because of the insurance company) i always ended up with a Doberman, or a Dobie mix....(my moms choice was always a shepherd though). my faves however are dobies(mix or pure dont care) or chows (mix or pure, dont care) and bulldogs(i prefer the purebreds. i'm snobby in that area..) Now that i am an adult, and dont have to worry about home owners insurance telling me what to do, i have bulldogs and intend to always have them.. at least one anyway. but i am always itching all over to get another Doberman some day.... thats going to be waaaaaaaaaay far into the future i'm sure. my husband "let" me get the bulldogs and is coming around to the idea of a doberman, but he still refuses to EVER consider a chow or any form or fashion. Right now he's happy as a lark with this GSD puppy. and if we some how lost all our other dogs except for this pup he wouldnt care one tiny bit. and that kinda annoys me a lot. i've never had a problem about a new member of the same breed reminding me of the last one though. i rather like being reminded Kaydee reminds me of my granny's big Old Southern White female, named Lady. and i have nothing but fond memories of her and the stories my grandad told me about her younger days (before i was born) still rattle around in my head when i see my own dog walking across the same piece of property that Lady used to patrol. so there is a healthy feeling of nostalgia for me.   Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact My first dog was a female, black, Lab. Apollo, my second dog, is a male, black, Lab. Same breed! It did take 3 years for me to get over my first Lab, (not get over in the sense that I don't miss her, but get over in the sense that I can get another dog) but I thought saving a Lab would be a good tribute to my first dog. It's weird getting a second dog that looks like your first, because their personalities will be very different, their likes/dislikes are very different. My first Lab hated the water, but you can't keep Apollo out of it! My third dog will most likely be a black Lab, male or female. I LOVE the breed, the look, and I know them very well. If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution. ~Author Unknown

I know what is was like before I had one and let's say life was really a bore. I love this breed and they keep me active and busy. I will never ever have a dalmation or lab after Cheyanne is gone. Even though she is half of each I can see each breed in her. I got the best of both worlds in her and I just wouldnt want to compare her to another dog.  I would love another Aussie but I would still be getting one with Splash in the back of my mind. And I just cant do that again. Jayde made me realize that. I wont ever have another little dog again. I love Kujo to death but I'm just a big dog person. Kimberly

  Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact Up until I got my shelties I always had mixed breeds, so never the same breed twice there, but I do lean towards dogs that are predominately black and white. Now that I have the shelties, they are definitely my breed and I'll have more of them for sure. My BC was an impulse adoption, not sure if I'll have another one of those, maybe, but there are other breeds I'd like to have too. I'll probably try an aussie next, I'd like a rough collie, a spaniel of some sort, possibly CKCS, or a coton de tulear, and DH wants a golden retriever. I'll always have a sheltie or two though.   Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact  I think huskies are a little different in that not too many people just have one.  I don't think I will every have only one husky again.  Having 2 has just been so much easier.  I've had labs too, but I think I've kind of gone past labs in terms of what I want in a dog.  But there are so many other breeds out there that I would love to experience, that I'm not sure if I'll ever get another husky even.  Crusher and Onyx are so close in age that likely, providing they live to old age, they will go close to the same time.  Now if I have other Huskies by that time...well then I'll continue on with them, but....oh this is a hard question...I have to think about it some more...I thought I knew.   Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact  Interesting question! Well, I've had/grown up with 6 Irish Setters...Brenna, Slick, Ozzie, Kelsey, and the current 2 Cadie and Riley. Canis was our only other dog (besides the ones that my brother left with us, but we didn't keep them), and she was an Irish Setter/black lab mix, lol. So we've definitely stuck to one breed...however, I *might* be getting an Australian Shepherd within the next few months. There's a first for everything!  Edit- just wanted to add that I don't think I'll ever go without an Irish Setter in my life. I love everything about them and I have such a tight bond with them considering they're all I've grown up with. : ) ~ISGrl Cadie - 8.5 yr/o Irish Setter Riley - 1.5 yr/o Irish Setter I love my shelter dog. Adoption IS the BEST option! =)

Not out of preference, they're just the dogs I've ended up with We are on a breeder search for a second Chow though, I hope to always have one.   I don't have a problem with getting the same breed of dog as a departed dog, every dog has a different temperament and will, thus, carve a new place in our lives and hearts.

  Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact  Forget same breed, I hardly stick within one species.  I've always loved animals and have spent my life surrounded by all types of critters.  I often find myself drawn to different species of animals to experience something new.  For instance I know when I get the itch for another animal, it won't be another dog but most likely something I've never owned.  Been looking into some of the larger parrots, fennec foxes, and sugar gliders as of late.  I don't choose different types of animals because I can't stand the sadness of being reminded of a particular animal though.  I like to remember my babies in a celebration of their life, not a mourning of their loss.  One creature I am stuck on though is praying mantises.  As long as I live I will always have at least a bug or two by my side.  As far when Kirby passes away, well that is hopefully far too off in the future for me to think about right now.  On one hand there are a lot of dog breeds I would love to own, and yet the same time the papillon is my ideal dog.  I love everything about the breed, so it is to soon for me to know what will happen when it comes time for me to get another dog.

  Re: same breed of dogs Reply Contact  Hmm, that is an interesting question!  My heart dog as a kid was a black lab who was the epitome of perfection.  Then as a young married couple, we picked up 2 mixed breed puppies on a whim.  When it came time later to deliberately choose a dog for the family, I had to find something that would work with my son's severe allergies and asthma, so the cut out the lab I was hoping for and we got an airedale terrier.  Once he was gone, I just decided to wait and not get a dog, thinking I'd travel the world when the kids left for college.  that lasted 2 years and I couldn't stand my house w/o a dog, so I decided to let my heart guide me and when I saw the right dog, I'd know it.  I spent several months browsing Petfinder and not finding anything that really caught my heart until little Woobie's face showed up.  I decided to get a 2nd dog to help Woobie along and because I wanted to do more doggie sports.  I'd developed an interest in and an affinity for border collies because I thought Woobie might be a mix of one, so Indie came along and he's purebred.  Having him has only strengthened my love for the breed and I wonder often what it would be like to have one with his intelligence and a sound body (he has HD) for more rigorous activities including herding.  I think that would be quite an experience!  I might get another more physically sound BC in the future (the very DISTANT future! LOL!) because I really am in awe of the characteristics of a true BC.  But, if my dreams are premonitions, there's a little white pittie girl in our future somewhere.  I am having recurring dreams of her wrestling in the back yard with the boys and giving them what for despite the fact she's half their size.    Oh, and her name is Sophie.       I've been keeping myself scarce at the shelter.    30 lbs. by Christmas, down 4 lbs., 26 to go!!!

It wouldn't be fair to the new dog. I need something that is really, really different so I'm not comparing the new dog to Emma.
