  post spay question Reply Contact hi all: I'm about to take my toy poodle to the Vet that did her surgery, but before I do, I'd like some of your opinion. I took my dog to get her spayed about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The procedure was fine. Everything was fine.  She had a little rough time healing the wound since she licked it too much. So I put an Ecollar on her. That seemed to work better.  There was some poss (sp?) and we cleaned it everyday with hydrogen peroxide and applied neosporene on it daily for 7 days. Now, the wound looks like it's healed. No more fluid or poss or redness. She seems very healthy and happy. BUT it's harden. The tissue around, under the scar is harden. It's about a nickle size. When we try to push it to see if there's any fluid, she didn't seem to be bothered or hurt. It doesnt' seem like there's infection. Is this normal for spay scar? I never had a female dog before and dont know what to expect. Please advise. Thanks.

  Re: post spay question Reply Contact From what you're describing - yes, it's normal. What you are feeling is the skin underneath attaching back together. One way you can tell that a dog was spayed - besides seeing the scar- is to feel it. Generally you'll be able to feel the tissue underneath, which is a bit harder than the rest. As long as it's not red or looking like infection, you should be fne = but a vet check up is always best =]
