  Petzlife and alcohol Reply Contact After coming home from the vet the other week learning that Zoe had a tooth infection, I am now on a rigorous plan to to keep that mouth clean! - we don't want any more infections, especially since I've been hearing of a lot of doxies dying from what began with infected teeth.  Soooo, I am now doing a daily regimen of thorougly wiping both dogs' teeth with tooth wipes from D.D.S. (tried using a brush and toothpaste but my dogs have such tiny, but long and narrows jaw that I can't effectively maneuver a tooth brush back there) and I also began nightly application of Petzlife gel.  I'm hoping these two things together will delay the intervals between cleanings.  Now, my question is, I noticed in the ingredients list of the Petzlife gel that it contains grain alcohol.  Is this safe, especially considering the size of my dogs?   Re: Petzlife and alcohol Reply Contact It shouldn't be a problem -- alcohol is often used as  both a preservative and in some meds as a way to get something into the bloodstream.  Have you tried a raw marrow bone a week or similar??  Even my little old lady peke (who has almost no teeth left) cleans a marrow bone and LOVES it.  And it surely helps the teeth.  Not a 'flat' 1/2" bone -- but an inch and a half or so long marrow bone -- even a small dog can benefit.

  Re: Petzlife and alcohol Reply Contact Emma gets her marrow bones, fairly regularly, but I still try to brush when I think about it (and good luck, Emma, getting your teeth brushed more than twice a month!). I've been eyeballing that Petzlife stuff, for a while, now. She doesn't mind the gel stuff (I have the salmon oil stuff..most of the time she'll actually lick it off my fingers..but sometimes she's weird about it) too much, but she usually goes and rubs her face on the carpet after I do either one. It's tingly.

  Re: Petzlife and alcohol Reply Contact Well luckily both my dogs actually LIKE the gel, so no problem at all with putting it on.  Good to know the alcohol shouldn't be a concern.  I know it's seems early but I can already tell the difference in both dogs' breath since I've been using it (2 days!).  I also switched to a lower carb food (Orijen) and I hope that will help as well.  As for bones, I would give them regularly if I had a yard where they can eat them outside.  When I do give bones, and its rare, I give it to them in their crates.  But I try to avoid crating them when I am at home since they are crated so much when I'm at work.
