    Allergy eyes?

My havachon puppy loves it outside, but as soon as he comes back in the house he frantically rubs his eyes along the carpet.  I think he has allergies!

I give him Angel Glow to keep the staining away and it does really well, but does anyone have a suggestion to prevent his eyes from itching?

    Re: Allergy eyes?

I've never used stuff for staining before,  but I'd make that's not affecting him in any way.

One of my Labs has seasonal allergies. His eyes become puffy and red, and he'll drag his face across the carpet until he makes it across the living room. If I catch it early enough, we can avoid a trip to the vet, but there have been many times he's had to go in because the season was just too bad for him.

I use Artificial Tears to keep his eyes lubricated. You can buy this at any pharmacy next to Visine and contact lense solution, and it's super cheap (less than $2.) I give him Benedryl until his vet appointment, and the vet usually gives him a cortisone shot to last him the season. At times, he's also needed Prednisone. It just truly depends on how bad the allergy seasons are.

Can I have my 4000-something posts back? Pretty please?

Thank you, I'll give it a try.  Is a Benedryl capsul ok?  Because I have that in my cabinet and I'll give it now.  If I shop, should I get children's benedryl liquid?

    Re: Allergy eyes?

The dose for Benedryl is 1-2 mg/lb of body weight given two to four times a day.  So whatever dose works.  The capsules are usually 25 mg and the children's elixer is usually 12.5mg/teas.

You might try Similisan Eye Drops -- get the "Pink Eye" ones -- they're the most soothing and really DO help a ton.  Very mild -- they are homeopathic and help a lot

Thanks again!  I think you get Similisan eye drops at any pharmacy, don't you?  It's not a "dog" treatment.  Right?

Mostly it's a health store thing - if you have a Whole Foods or Wild Oats usually they carry them, altho a lot of regular stores DO carry them.  Best to call and ask around before you run your legs off.  But DO use the "pink eye" one -- and NOT just the allergy one.  The pink eye one will give her far more relief.

Thanks for the help.  I found it at the pharmacy.  I remember using it myself before.

I think some of the pollen is beginning to clear because he's not quite as miserable as he was.  *whew*
