    Nose balm

Anyone ever heard of this stuff or this site?  As with all "testimonies", it sounds good.  I'm thinking about getting it for my dog with a dry cracked nose.

    Re: Nose balm

I didn't get past the price.  Bag Balm is much cheaper, and works wonderfully on dry chapped skin of any kind.  Smile

    How do you do?

    Re: Nose balm

I take it nobody has ever heard of this.  I have bag balm and have been using it every day, but it's not working for him for some reason?  I'm just getting desperate at this point.  I'll try anything.  Thanks for your reply!

    Re: Nose balm

I think Bag Balm has lanolin which - even though many products contain it as a moisturizer - can dry skin out and make eczema worse. I am allergic to it and have to scour all hair and skin products. As an allergen, all it does is make my dry skin worse to the point that it cracks and bleeds (hands especially). Try an internet search for SheaPet, they have a great ointment for cracked paws and other wounds.

P.S. I can't remember if I've seen this particular nose balm before. I like the ingredients though, especially Shea Butter and Jojoba.

    Re: Nose balm

That must be rough for you...what a burden!  Thanks for commenting on the ingredients Big Smile

I'll look into that sheaPet too. My thought is that if this doesn't work, I'm going to get Musher's secret next (I should have already gotten it Tongue Tied) then sheapet if need be. My vet said he didn't have discoid lupus but I'm starting to doubt her.  I saw a picture of a cracked bleeding split in the nose identical to Kodas and that dog HAD DL. Plus no pigmentation loss just like mine.

I'm going to take him for a 2nd opinion. hopefully I can get in tomorrow.

Yep! ...it is kind of a burden, lol.

We bought some Musher's for the snow and it didn't perform like we'd expected. We've only used about 1/4 of the container and it's just sitting in the cabinet looking at me (200 g at $18). I'd be happy to send it along to you, if you'd like. I don't want anything for it, just pay it forward somewhere else along the line. The SheaPet treatment balm is only 1.8 oz at $18 as well (but it has paid for itself over and over). I figure, if you're going to try a few things at least you won't have to pick up the tab for the Musher's!

I hope Koda's poor nose is just dry and cracked and that he doesn't have DL.

Are you sure?  That would be awesome but please let me give you something for it?  If I can get his nose cleared up enough we will be paying it forward by visiting sick/elderly patients and children. Hopefully brightening their days a little.  He got his TDI cert a while ago..I just don't want him visiting with a crusty/cracked nose.  I also donate to the local shelter,  I try to give back what I can.

I hope he doesn't have DL either, but something inside tells me it is...I don't know why.  Sad   I'll PM you.

Looking at that tongue pic for longer than a few seconds and it starts looking rediculously NOT normal!  LOL

    Re: Nose balm

My Brittany has a chronically dry, chapped nose.  I too worry about discoid lupus, as it's pretty common in Brittanys.  But my vet thinks his nose is dry due to a blocked gland.  She says there is a gland that keeps dogs' noses moist and in some dogs they get blocked.  She said it's very similar to dry eye.

That's interesting. I've never heard of a blocked gland.  Makes sense though!
