    Now this is weird

Some of you may have read about Mike the Cat's old litter box issues. This was all solved by getting him giant litter boxes because he was just too big to fit into a normal box. So we've got the pooping and peeing in the box down now. However, I've noticed this strange behavior...he's now pretending to pee in the bathtub. He's not made a drop in the tub, but he scratches and does a pee squat. Then he doesn't pee. (Not that I want him to. lol) What's up with this? He's going to the bathroom and eating and drinking fine. What's the deal?

Can I have my 4000-something posts back? Pretty please?

    Re: Now this is weird

My cat did that in the beggining stages of his UTI.  It's because the bladder is irritated and he feels like he needs to pee even though he's bladder is empty.  I don't know Mike's past issues but cats dont usually do things without a reason.  Mine stopped peeing in his box and did a lot of squatting in weird places around the house when he had a UTI (I had no idea back then, I thought he just felt like going to the bathroom somewhere else), I learned that he asccociated that litter box with his discomfot so he thought that if he peed somewhere else that the pain will stop.  I noticed that when cats are uncomfortable or in pain they tend to blame the litter box or the dog, lol.

I second this...verify, double verify, then triple verify that Mike has a steady stream in the litterbox. He may have something going on.  Also check for blood in the urine.  :)

I third this.....absolutely, you must verify that he is in fact passing a steady stream in the litterbox. This is very dangerous for males, as they can get totally blocked and, if not taken care of, it could kill them. Females are not as likely to get totally blocked.

    I'm not a puppy here. I've been around i-dog (aka dog.com) since, I believe it was, 2001.
