    Folks,

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that posting an old joke about e-mail lists would turn into such a funny commentary of this forum.  It looks like this is a great stress reliever for everyone involved.  Keep up the good work.  I have seen some really creative posts.

Btw,  Don't give up on the toaster.  There are way too many old toasters sitting out there on the shelves of Good Wills, Salvation Army, and second hand stores not to mention all the toasters listed on Ebay.

Well, now I think we'll have to start a thread about whose post was everyone's favorite...LOL

    sharismom:
Do these instructions only apply to bulbs in lamps?  What about overhead lighting?

     It will work for either

    sharismom:
What about those fluorescent tubular lights?

this post is about lightbulbs, the round ones with a screw end, fluorescent questions should be placed in another thread.

    sharismom:
How will I know if the light bulb is cool before I touch it?  Will it tell me?  Does it come with a thermometer?

Have you considered just using a flashlight? Perhaps you should educate yourself more on lightbulbs and perhaps take a class before using them, in the meantime a flashlight will work well for your needs.

    sharismom:
Wouldn't it be safer to completely unplug the lamp or fixture before attempting to do this in case I accidentally miss the socket and catch my finger in it?

Yes you need a class, the local LightbulbsMart may offer some

I have had nothing but bad experiences with LightbulbsMart. I would stay away from these huge corporations, all they want is your money. They don't *really* care about your light bulbs!

Re: How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

Personally, I was disappointed in the LightbulbsMart class I took. The instructor gave me no individual attention, two folks had light bulbs which obviously didn't belong in a public class in the first place, and since LighbulbsMart has jumped on the "force free, light bulb friendly" movement, I was forbidden to do anything but coax the light bulb into the socket of it's own free will.

When I complained, I was told I was an impatient light bulb abuser, and promptly kicked out of class.

Be sure to buy your lightbulb that is singularly wrapped.  None of those that have 4 bulbs crunched in a paper crate.  Poor things.  I would never treat my lightbulbs that way but I am sure for other crate lovers it is a convenience.

I agree with corgi - this might be  fine topic, but it is innapropriate to discuss it here and distract us all from arguing about light bulbs.  I second the suggestion that you  take it to a new thread and not derail this one any longer.

Why must there be this commentary on posts, always seems to be the same people.  And why characterize the civil discussion as arguing.  Wait a minute, I am making commentary on posts....whoops....never mind.

DPU, this whole thread ahs been funny but this one post made me HOOT!

Again off topic.  This is a discussion to a specific electrical device and to some point the predecessors to it.  We need a different topic to discuss the other things that are fed electricity.

Angelique, I must stoutly defend LightbulbsMart and their teaching methods, there is NO PLACE for force or forceful methods when working with lightbulbs! Lightbulbs are delicate, and dainty and must be handled with positive methods! To do otherwise is just plain mean IMHO. Now as for your last comment about coaxing lightbulbs into sockets well over time once they become accustomed to their job they will give you no problems, you just gently screw them in and they will light up with joy! You must understand that the lightbulb works for the joy of the electricity! Perhaps your forceful methods have made your lightbulbs shy and this is why you have to coax them into their sockets.

Since you did not get the training you so obviously need at the first class, perhaps you should go again and sign up for the second time around class. They will go through all the steps in a meticulous fashion complete with flash cards and you should exit that class an almost expert in screwing in lightbulbs in the proper and humane manner in which they should be so screwed.

The class will be helpful to you, you will not know as much about Lightbulbs as Ron but you will know enough to get the job done! And you will even get to keep the flashcards!

Since this is a family forum, I suggest you not use the words "screw", "screwed", or "screwing"...which you very cleverly wove into the conversation, under the wire of the word censors.

And, could you please define the word "mean".

Re: How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

I must agree with the last post.  All of my lightbulbs have gone happily into their sockets at the slightest suggestion.  I do have to say though that I have never ever put them in there as a punishment and a socket means nothing but good things to my Light Bulbs.

    hateful, cruel, harsh

and as for my choice of words no offense was intended and here is a link to "How to Change a Lightbulb", please note the words used. This word has many different meanings and I have posted them at the bottom of my post for your benefit although I did have to edit portions of the definitions in order to not violate the forum rules.

    1. Unscrew the burnt out bulb and dispose of it properly.
    2. Screw in the new bulb. Do not over-tighten or press on the bulb too hard.
