    HRD/Cadaver dog training??

Hello, Dogs and dog training are my passion!  I would love to get into training police dogs, or specificly HRD dogs. I know for sure I don't want to be a police officer- I just want to train the dogs. I am having a hard time finding out where to go after I get my GED, and who to contact. I have been sending out emails to websites I find who may have some insite. I haen't gotten any replies but i'm still looking.

Does anyone here work with police dogs or do SAR dog training? Could you maybe point me the right direction or give some advice? Do you have any books you recommend? I have written a couple down but am open to anything.

Go to www.tawzerdogvideos.com and search on "Steve White".  Here's his web site: http://www.i2ik9.com/.  Also, while not a police K9 trainer, I advise you to read Karen Pryor's "Don't Shoot the Dog".  It's a bit dry, but you will at least understand operant conditioning and how dogs (and other mammals) learn.  "Ready - The Training of the Search and Rescue Dog" by Susan Bulanda is another I would recommend.  I think it's out of print, but worth the read if you can find it.

You get what you reinforce, not what you want.

I advise that you seek competent professional advice before trying any training or behavior modification techniques on your own dog(s).

LOL.  I saw the title and thought HRD was the herding trial course.  Darn.  Wink
