Boxer Puppy gets a little rough with one of my 3 kids

Sparky my 9 week old boxer pup, gets a little more rough with my 6 year old, then any of my other kids. Dom, (6) plays more roughly with him then my other two. I just need some advice on how to handle both of them. Sparks, barks at dom like he is gonna "get him". I tell Dom to get away and leave the pup alone, but I think he has made Sparks leary around him. Sparks is great with Ash (9) and Kris(3) except if Dom has made him "crazy".

I know this is a kid issue more than a pup issue, just looking for pointers on how to explain to Dom and how to cool Sparks down!!

There will be no cooling down of Sparky, the 9 week old puppy.  Big Smile  He's just a baby, an infant.  At this age, they are pretty much mindless when it comes to how to behave.  Don't get me wrong...they can learn, I started showing my pups how to sit, how to come to me and to start getting used to a leash at that age.

Sparky's roughness is simply play...that his job right now.  Play, play, play.  Don't look at it as aggression.  If Dom plays more roughly with pup than the other two, maybe Sparky is just reciprocating.  Wink

I think your right in telling Dom to leave the pup alone.  Soon, Sparky's little jaws will get stronger and those razor puppy teeth will start to hurt when he plays.  Maybe what you do is make sure the kids always have puppy toys in their hands so that when Sparky gets too rough and starts mouthing, they can redirect the puppy to play with a toy.

I'm sure you will get better advice from others here...good luck!

Thank you so much for you thoughts and I am definitly going to make sure that they have one of his toys so they don';t get hurt and I will continue to tell Dom to play nicer.

You cant tell them to do anything.  You have to teach them and monitor them... Things are more likely to get worse not better unless things change dramatically and quickly.  Organized dog obedience classes are one place to start.  You need to get control of the dog then place the kids in front of you and practice all the behaviors from class with the kids mirroring your commands and actions.  The kids can not play with the puppy unless you are supervising.  The puppy needs a safe place from the kids.  The puppy can not be out running around loose when playmates of the kids are over.  There is a nice lay of of the behaviors, specific lessons and strategies available at
