So how do I teach a pup and an adult dog to curb???

Here is the deal, I have been boarding an adult pup of mine,  his momma is getting her business set up and running in New York.  They will be reunited at the end of July.  The end of this month I will leave to pick up a new pup for her. This boy will be staying with me as well to be trained, basic housebreaking, and puppy level kindergarten. With an eye to getting his CGC before he goes home. The momma emailed me today and said one of the most important things they need to learn is to be curbed. Kota apparently did it reluctantly andonly if he just could not hold it.

I have always trained my pups to "pick a spot" then  they are reasonably reliable when I need them to be.  But I have never , ever trained a dog to curb. The concept is rather gross to me. I understand not wanting them to mess on a sidewalk but eeeeeeouw messing in the gutter?  So fill me in gang surely the owner or dog walker picks up the mess in the gutter just as they would if it hit the sidewalk ?  Do I just try to walk them endlessly on asphat and concrete like  the mall? And restrict access to grassy areas ?  Confused  I need to know what to expect and how to train this behavior. Please all advice will be gratefully read !!

Jayde was born and raised in her breeders finished but not carpeted basement. She and her littermates used the concrete to potty.

When I brought her home I of course started potty training her. But she wouldnt go in the grass. I knew she had to go at some point so I let her show me where she wanted to go. She chose the sidewalk leading up to our house. Ewww!! Not gonna happen.

She will use the grass now but I do notice when we are out walking she will just start pooping in the road.

So I think that you should do what you normally would do when training a pup/dog to potty in a spot you want them to. Just take them to the concrete instead. I agree it's gross but......you have to do what you have to do.
