    MORE (Callie tearing hair out)

gosh darn it ... was just getting him feeling 'ok' (and more than ok really) ... and it looks like he's gotten himself OBSTRUCTED!!!!!

We took Luna and Kee to Give Kids the World yesterday -- got home and Mr. Billy PERFECT had had a hissy fit in his crate!!  I keep a whole bin full of dog stuff on the top of his crate -- leashes, bags of treats, etc.  The little stinkpot upended stuff and pulled a BUNCH of bags of miscellaneous treats, food samples of Innova, etc. IN his crate and made a major piggy out of himself ... AND chewed a bunch of bags to get TO it.

Sooooo we've watched.  He drank a TON right after we got home (the little stinker fouled his water with all his shenanigans and then he must have drunk over a quart of water when we first got home.).

Today he hasn't felt 'stellar'.  This morning he was pretty normal ... but he's been quite 'quiet' ... but it's a laid-back Sunday here so I wasn't too worried.  I made dog food this afternoon ... and he was definitely interested.  They actually got a bigger-than-normal portion for dinner simply because I've almost got more than I can store.  he 'finished' it ... but I couldn't tell if one of the herbs in his food tasted nasty (like it was 'warm' food and that can cause a capsule to break) ... or if he was a bit off.

But after he ate he didn't want his pills ... NOT AT ALL.  uh oh.  This dog never EVER refuses food.

They're crated -- while we were gone at supper it looks like he threw up but then re-ingested it.  No time elapsed -- so that doesn't worry me (not like puke that had been in the sun for hours like with Foxy).  No blood nothing like that in evidence.  Outside he's acting constipated.  Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo looks like we've got obstruction.  It's about 40 hours ... which is about 'perfect' timing for the intestinat tract to fill up.  We'll see if he throws up later.

I wish I could get Dr. B on the phone ... I'll have to take him to the other vet we use, but he's a good vet and a good surgeon.  I don't have a problem at all if he has to do the surgery.  I just don't want the e-vet here touching him.  If I thot this was a serious risk we'd take him tonight.  But I'm afraid he'd be more at risk of exposure to parvo or something dire THERE than waiting to take him to a competent animal hospital in the morning.  I think I"m judging this well and if he wakes us up in the night we'll re-think this.

grrr -- sometimes I feel like we can't catch a break -- and frankly, this was Billy's own darn fault.  I'm just really glad we found the remnants of what he tore up -- so we were looking for this.  *sigh*

I hate the emergency vet in this town -- I truly hate them.  If he's obstructed I know from what ... and I don't think it will hurt to wait til morning.  I think it's too high risk having an IMHA dog have surgery at the hands of a B-team vet on the night shift at an e-vet I already don't trust as far as I can throw them (oooh, Callie -- tell them how you REALLY feel!).

I've got a call in to my vet ... and I'll be on my way down there in the morning if he still acts 'off'.

Just want you to know that we're keeping our fingers & paws crossed for you & Billy.

Sending good thoughts, & prayers that he stays comfortable through the night, so that your normal vet can handle his care in the morning.

Ugh Callie - I'm sorry and hope that things stay calm thru the night and that your trusted vet can see him in the AM. These dogs do like to keep us on high alert, don't they?

If you remember, I'd posted the other night about Sassy and the soda can. Shortly after I posted, I took her out and she did her evening poop and everything looked fine. I did give her a few milk soaked cotton balls (of course, then I worried "could they cause an obstruction?"). When I took her out in the AM she had a verryyyy healthy poop with zero signs of a problem. Before I left for work, I left a note for DH since he was on his way home from his shift. She's been totally fine ever since, but how in the world she managed to pass a bunch of tin is beyond me. Like you, I have deep fears of our e-vet clinic. When we took Buffy in for what they *think* was cellulitis, they lanced her elbow for nothing and the end result was a super high bill and her going thru a ton of trauma for nothing *sigh*

I hope that your situation is similar to mine with Sassy and all the worry and lack of sleep are for nothing, but I'll be checking back to see how you're all doing.

Re: MORE (Callie tearing hair out)

He's been SO sedentary today -- and I got to mentally tallying what had to be up (volume wise) in that bin -- and dang his little butt it was a TON of IVD treats and other treats I don't give much (because I don't 'like' them and he's been off wheat for two months)  so just the sheer VOLUME of what the little stinker ate and THEN drank a quart of water on top of it?

     Shoot -- anybuddy would be ... c-o-n-s-t-i-p-a-t-e-d!!!!!!

    Lil OINK-R!!!!

So I woke David up and asked him to take Billy for a LONG LONG *****LONG**** walk.  He's been sedentary (when this dog doesn't 'feel good' he sulks ("I'm just gonna eat worms and die!!!  Poor poor pittyful ME!!!")  The tail stops and he just becomes all 'sad dog'.

David says it took a LONG walk -- but (no butts about it??)

    He's a SUPER DUPER PO-OP-ER!!!!

Now -- he's still not feeling terrific but at least at this point I'm not quite so concerned that we're headed for surgery.  Little stink pot!!!

Will post more in the morning but folks please -- I surely would appreciate more I-Dog good thots and prayers.  He's been thru SO much ... and now he's got a heart murmur and I really didn't want to rush into emergency surgery with a dog with a heart murmur!!

Sooo ... we'll see what ... well let's just hope what 'comes around goes .. around, thru, and done.  I haven't had to worry an obstruction thru in a few years ... guess it was time??

*Bil-lyyyy you gotta potty MORE ... you gotta potty ... ***MORE***"

LOL, Callie I think sometimes all the knowledge you have tends to cause you to think the worst is happening.  I had a feeling even before reading your second post that there was no obstruction.  I really hope he's getting back to his old self for you by morning.

Re: MORE (Callie tearing hair out)

I was hanging my hope on the fact that he was still *trying* to go.

It was about 10:00 last night when we finally decided to 'worry' for real.  My biggest concern was his reaction to food.  This dog is such a MAJOR food-nut that when HE won't take the smallest spoonful of something HE thinks is 'yummy' is ... well to be honest it's terrifying *lol*.

So when he wouldn't take his 'homeopathic' (which HE thinks is candy) I truly began to think the worst.  Then, my husband is a Tums 'addict' and typically any time he hears the bottle Billy is right there trying to 'beg' one.  And he didn't MOVE ... so then that got my normally un-flappable husband *worried*.

I think he's moved the most of it (dad gave him another VERY long walk this morning).

Muffin the Intrepid at a SIX FOOT HOLE in a Vellux blanket once -- and I worried that one for about 6 days before he stopped having pieces of Vellux and polyester threads coming out of the other end.  So now I"m watching for plastic baggie pieces and those darned metal-imbedded plastic bags those treats come in.  sheesh.
