    Please Pray for Bubblegum

Yes...my heart dog is sick and I don't know from what.  I am scared and nervous. I took her to the vet 2 days in a row. They ran blood work..and everything is normal. No temperature,, heart rate good. As they were waiting for test results she was back there with them..dr said she is alert, her eyes look good,, she is strong,,, whatever.   They can't get a scope down her ears as she won't let anyone near them...although they were swabbed and tested and nothing was there...although it could be inner ear.  She does not have the symptoms of head tilting, walking in circles or falling to one side...so dr is not concerned that is what it is even though not ruling out the possibility.   To sedate her is hard...they did that with her dental in Sept and she would not even sit down...they were laughing at that time.  I swear they must have conked her over the head to get her out for the dental.   She is sleeping a lot...she is sometimes trembly...and yet sometimes she is normal. She IS eating and drinking and has a good appitite...thank God for that.   But now she is not even getting up from a laying position very good SOME of the times.

I took her in on Thursday because I'm sick of worrying.  I took her in on Friday for bloodwork that I wished I would have had her done on Thursday.  This is Saturday and still in the same position if not worse..because she loves being upstairs where one of her beds is..and she had trouble getting up here last night and this morning.   Dr said next step is x-rays.. not sure of what.   She wants her to take Rimadyl for a couple of days and even though I HATE the thought of it... I figured "yes... just to see if pain meds helps...especially since I was considering which aspirin to use during the week."    I only gave her 2 Rimadyls so far,,,two nights in a row with her supper.   It doesn't seem to make one bit of difference and to be  honest...she didn't have trouble getting up until the night of her first Rimadyl.   I can't give her more of them...

I asked the dr if she could have antibiotics for ears...just in case....she didn't want to do that.   So if she is sick,,we are doing nothing for her. Today is Saturday..most vets closed early and are booked if I consider taking her to another. My sons wedding shower is at 4, I'm supposed to be making some food to take and here I am on the computer.

    We need prayers....please.

(I should probably clarify that I do know that Bubblegum is a harlequin Great Dane.  My daughter thinks otherwise.)

Sending positive thoughts your way for Bubblegum to get better real soon.

    I'm not a puppy here. I've been around i-dog (aka dog.com) since, I believe it was, 2001.

    Re: Please Pray for Bubblegum

Of course I'll pray for Bubby. Jessie has had a few ear infections where her ears looked fine (no debris or redness) but she had an infection in the ear canal; in one case it was her ear drum. She acted like her ears were bothering her though; shaking her head and scratching them. It sounds like Bubby isn't doing that. For the inner ear, I think they can do x-rays to see if there's an infection.  It really does seem like she has some sort of pain associated with movement; have they considered x-rays of her spine? Sending lots of healing vibes and <<hugs>>.

Life isn't about waiting through the storm; it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Dyan - I know you wouldn't be worrying for nothing, so I hope whatever it is, it either resolves on it's own or the Dr. can figure it out. I know exactly how you're feeling and I know it's really rough. I will keep Bubby in my thoughts and prayers and hope to hear a positive update real soon.

    Re: Please Pray for Bubblegum

In the bloodwork are the globulins elevated? (that shows infection in the body)

     And the PCV/hematacrit is good?

My next step would be to find a TCVM vet to take her to and have them examine her -- they'll do a more hands-on exam and will be able to spot soreness -- did you feel for any warm places yourself?  Does massaging her help at all?  TRY it.

You know I"m not saying leave your regular vet - but often acupuncture can help so much.
