We got Boston through a breed rescue when he was 8 weeks. The rescue had taken in a pure bred weimaraner and she gave birth to 12 puppies. They all have excellent homes including Boston's mom.

    Let's see....

All of the border collies are related:  I bred Dan (I owned his mother), got Possum from the woman who bred Dan's mom and father (Possum is Dan's niece), and got Kelda from a woman who owned a half sister to Dan who does stockdog trials.  Haddie came from a breeder (AKC conformation but has a produced a few that dabble in performance venues).  Both of my cats were rescues:  Arlo pulled from a kill shelter and Cera from the Cat Protection Society (orphaned litter hand raised).  All the dogs came from health tested lines (CERF, OFA, BAER, etc.)

Re: Where did you get your dog?

Summer Sheperd/hound/lab/husky mix, or whatever she is....#1 adopted from shelter as her time was almost up. Trained her in Search and Rescue and she did awesome...we passed a couple of the tests, when I decided we just didn't have the time. She got her CGC at one of the Search and Rescue seminars. She does agility with me now. She was originally a stray.

Shelby Catahoula...#1 brought her home from the shelter, with thoughts of just fostering her....that was 10 years ago. She had a few issues that made me nervous of giving her up to someone else. She had already been adopted once and returned. She also does agility. She also was originally a stray. She and what appeared to be probably a litter mate came in together. Her litter mate ended up being euthanized, as she also was adopted once and brought back, due to problems of being too protective.

Gus Border Collie...#5 he was found as a stray by a relative of a member of our rescue group. Our rescue  group took him in and as I had been thinking I'd like a Border Collie, I took him home and we kept him. He also is doing agility.

Corey Cattle dog/jack russell ? Our rescue group took him in from the animal shelter, to foster him, and I took him home. He was just way to rambunctious and I didn't think anyone else could put up with him, and so he stayed. He'll be starting agility this year. A very focused little fellow so I think he'll do great.

Actually all of the dogs were originally strays....none were owner turn ins. We did find the owners of the border collie, however. They had called another rescue, looking to adopt a small dog. Well, in the interview, it was found out that their other dog got lost. So the rescue called around, to other rescues, to see if he might have been found by someone. When it was found that we had the dog, the owners called us and said they didn't want him and turned him over to us. Then, a week later, they call us looking for a small dog to adopt.

    I'm not a puppy here. I've been around i-dog (aka dog.com) since, I believe it was, 2001.

Re: Where did you get your dog?

In all the many dogs I've loved I've never ever "bought" a puppy.  I've never taken a dog because of its breed.

Billy - came from a rescue group who couldn't place him because his ears were so bad (allergy ears that needed attention).  We actually thot he was deaf the day we got him and took him because of that because we'd dealt with it successfully in the past.

Luna -- a wild child 9 month old given up because the owner couldn't handle her (the woman had her in doggie daycare 24/7!! *sigh*).  Found her on Petfinder and took her because we'd never had a hound before *grin*

Kee Shu -- *sigh* she came to stay hoping her owner would be able to get his feet under him and stay sober enough to keep a job.  didn't happen.  Age completely unknown -- probably 12 or so when we got here, so she's probably 14 1/2 now.

Luna and Billy are the only dogs we've "gone looking for" -- most of the time the ones that need us find us!

Re: Where did you get your dog?

Charlie my mom brought him home from a petstore a few days before Christmas. She knew it wasnt a smart thing to buy from a petstore but she felt bad for him and brought him home.

Claire came from a good breeder, she has champions in her line all pups were sold before they were born but we got her for free because we tried to save her 2 day sold sister that ended up passing away from a clef (sp?) pallet. She would have been $1500...

Cloe is my sisters dog who also came from a petstore in Florida....uugh

Sabrina was donated to a service dog program so I can train her so I dont know exactly where she came from....but she was driven directly to me from the breeder and she was in horrible shape. ALL bones and smelled awful and had realllllyyyyy bad diarreah (sp?).

Zoe - 3 year old chocolate and tan miniature dachshund

Zack - 1 year old toy manchester terrier

Re: Where did you get your dog?

I got mine from a reputable breeder. However a year and a half later he came down with a skin condition and after numerous tests an a huge vet bill we found out that he has subaceous adanitis (excuse the spelling) which is apparently genetic. Contacted the breeder to inquire if any of his siblings had any problems an was told they hadn't. Upon further research I have discovered that this ailment can skip multiple generations.Oh well I enjoy oil baths and medicated shampoos once a week but not as much as Willow does!Dog
