This New Forum Is A Downgrade.

I like the old forum much better.  Don't you think this new forum is a bit of a downgrade?  I really like a good Search feature.  I often would search for certain topics I need.  Now there's no advance options for Search.  There are other problems too that I find.  And I know a lot of you don't like the fact it doesn't show who created the thread.  Also, I was not able to use my old name on this forum for some reason.  I even asked for a forgotten password and it woudln't work.  So I resigned up as ShelterDogs.  Anyone else agree that this is a downgrade?

I'm not sure it's a downgrade, but I don't like it as well.  There are a lot of bells and whistles, but I LIKED the old forum better....I liked being able to do a search for a topic or a member, I liked being able to see at a glance the recent posts....I find that I miss a LOT of stuff now, and I hate going into one of the prayer request threads or any of the time sensitive ones, late.  I was thinking that the reason *I* find the forum slower is because of my dial up connection (blasted cable company) but, others with highspeed have complained as well.

I *thot* that was you when I saw your posts earlier, but wasn't sure.  Glad you're back with us

I really disliked it in the beginning, but then I always hate change :(. Now that I'm used to it, I can hardly remember the way the old forum was but I do wish that we could see who started a thread.

i agree with the downgrade. i used to frequent the site much more than i do now. it has just been too hard to get used to the new layout for me.

Re: This New Forum Is A Downgrade.

i've kept my mouth shut thus far, but since someone else brough it up.......  here we go!

i can adapt to anything pretty quickly, but this dadblasted new forum makes my head hurt.

when you go "back" it starts at the top instead of where you left off - like in the middle of the page?

and when you do click on the Forum link... it doesnt upgrade anything. like you know where you can see the latest post next to the forum section? doesnt always show the latest post like its supposed to...

and then the annoyance i had recently with the PMs! turns it was MY ignorance... i didnt realise that i had only received PMs and never sent them out. when i did i freaked thinking i had somehow screwed things up!

and when i click on the reply (quick reply or the other one so i can quote someone) it takes a long time to load everything...... and the emoticons stink.. stupid MSN junk.

i also had a hard time figuring out how to edit my profile..... i accidentally blundered my way through it... and i have to keep blundering around because i cant remember anything..

yeah yeah i know its free... still..... dont like it. the other dog forum i go to (The Hunting Life) has everything this one has only its set up like the old forum. AND you can see who browses your profile lol which is kinda coolBig Smile i dont care so much for blogs.. i have a myspace account for that..which i hardly ever use... and pics? i have a photobucket for that too...

anyway i'm done with my gripes. again.... i dont want to sound like a snob, but really.... the other forum was waaaaaay better. but then again i've seen waaaaaaaaaaaaay worse!!!

I also like the old forum much better!!  I’m more of a viewer than a poster now the forum is still a bit confusing to move around in.  I miss the old way of uploading pictures straight from my hard drive instead of using photobucket.  Granted I have no problem with change and better technology but it can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers and the old members just coming back.

Thank God I'm not the only one who feels this way! I think there's just WAY too much on here and I find it overwhelming. Yeah, it's free and there's a lot to do, but I really miss the OLD I-Dog from back in the day when it was simply a message board. This is the main reason why I don't post often on here. Maybe I'm getting old and find all the "improvements" way too much to handle. Wink

Re: This New Forum Is A Downgrade.

I liked the old one better.  I can deal with most of the things I don't like, but my least favorite thing is that this new forum is not "live".  For example, I'm posting in this thread and after I hit Post and go back to the main index, it will not reflect my post for a minute or so.  Also, I don't like the message body interface.  On the old forum and other forums I visit and am an administrator for, if you accidentally closed the tab or browsed away, you could go Back, Forward, or Open Recently Closed Tabs and the text you already entered was cached.  Now, if you make a mistake, you have to start completely over again.

I hate photobucket, and I hate having to make a link each time.  I would like to see the thread starter, too.  And, can we add some decent emoticons that these old eyes can see.  Where's the dead horse??????????????????????

I have gotten used to it, I suppose.  I will agree that the search function here is absolutely useless.

I also hate photobucket and having to spend a half hour uploading pictures of my dogs, just to share snapshots here.

I've gotten use to the new format, but it isn't as user friendly as the old forum.

It's just a better life with dogs.

That's my main complaint. Now, when I want to share a pic, I have to remember and take time to go to photobucket, upload to there, and then keep that page up and remember to link on the img code. Otherwise, the new format is okay, though it took some getting used to and the system wasn't up to full function on launch. I had pm's piling and couldn't get into my pm account to answer them. It took an admin talking to tech support to fix it. Also, I'm not sure why we had to change to this new format. But, since the forum is free, I ain't got no room to gripe.

That sums it up. They also don't seem to be acknowledging complaints or addressing bugs the way they were. On a board like this a good search function is essential. People come here at times looking for information on an urgent basis, and they can't find it. The board is hard to navigate and some functions load slowly even on the fastest connections.

The amount of traffic as referenced by the Who is Online section has decreased drastically. Definite downgrade Sad

So the forum IS slower, traffic wise?  I thought it was a combination of dial up and me just missing a ton of stuff.
