  Complex Focal Seizure Reply Contact OK, I'm coming to the experts here.   My 6 yo male Chi has been acting oddly on & off for the last few days and I suspect he is having seizures.   He'll be laying down resting and the all of a sudden, jump up, running around frantically, licking air, and then look up over his head, snap at "flys" and will sometimes look at his hind end. He will then settle back down and act normally. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong othewise. Eating normally, all other behaviors are normal, and he doesn't seem "off" otherwise.   I will be making an appoinment at the vet, but would really like to get some imput from some of you.

DogtorJ (Dr. John Symes - vet and epileptic) claims to have eliminated or drastically reduced seizures in idiopathic ("unknown cause") epileptic dogs by making strict dietary changes (food and treats). He believes that these dogs can not tolerate foods rich in the amino acids glutamate and aspartate (grains, corn, wheat, barley, cow's milk, soy, peanuts, legumes, beans, etc.) possibly because of a brain barrier problem (genetic? viral damage?).   RE: Complex Focal Seizure Reply Contact Well, I'm pretty sure that it's NOT diet related. My Chi's are fed Grain-free, raw and homecooked and I thank you for the links you've posted, but I've already done alot of that reading.   I was really hoping for some replys from some one that has had some experience with these types of seizures.   Any way, I'm going to be taking him into the vet, but I'm hoping to get some video of one of these episodes to show the vet, as it's hard to explain and they (dogs) hardly EVER have a seizure when you take them to the vet for evaluation.

  RE: Complex Focal Seizure Reply Contact Just a curiosity, have you checked his anal glands? My Min Pin, Jezzy, will do that sometimes. She isn't a scooter, so when she starts acting like this, I know it is time to express her anal glands.
