First for a brief introduction. My name is Kari and I have a 10 month old German Shepherd. His name is Dakota and he'll actually be 11 months in about a week. We've also got a little miniature pinscher/bichon mix who is about 4-5 years old named Peanut who is about the size of Dakota's head. Normally they get along okay with the occasional argument caused by Dakota wanting to mess with Peanut who then squaks like a bird (not even kidding, you'd think she's getting stepped on) before biting him wherever she can reach, i.e. his feet or face. Dakota usually backs down after this and that's that.
Yesterday, however, he decided to go absolutely nuts over Peanut. They are both unaltered (Dakota will get neutered in the future) and Peanut had just finished having her period and allowed back inside. For some reason Dakota is going absolutely nuts over her. He will not leave her alone. We have to keep the two separated because he's constantly going over to her and pawing at her gently and trying to lick her and she wants none of it. When we do separate the two, however, Dakota whines. And when I say whine, I mean he cries and cries, and cries. He will not shut up.
So my question for you all is, what is his deal? Will he stop in a few days or what? He's driving us all insane, especially little Peanut, who wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
