I do not mind in the least that you give Hunter's site. You can read about something and think "Oh, that is sad" Or "Oh, my, that is to bad." and then it goes away from mind. BUT when you see pictures, it tends to come home a little more. It puts a face to the story. Like i read all the Perry Mason Books before i ever had a chance to watch the show. later, as I read books, I had faces for Perry, Della, Paul, etc.
I know of 4 other cases of reaction in this little town, and talked to the owners of 3. One is a Standard Poodle and her owner goes to our little church and sites behind me. After her 4th PH6 injection she started bleeding. Yep, the old gastric bleeding, one of the major reactions. Amber is on meds the rest of her life. Miss one tab and she starts bleeding. One was a chihuahua that belongs to the receptionst that use to be with my insurnace agent. This dog had an injection site reaction, but was also very sick for about a week and had to make several trips to the vet. The other is an aussie shepherd and I was first told about her by the assistant vet and then happened to run into the guy in Walmart when i was wearing my Proheart6 Killed Him Tee shirt (with a picture of Hunter on the front, the picture of a border collie mix that died in Wis the same day my hunter died here). Anyway this guy pointed to my shirt and said "That stuff almost killed my dog." But the time he told how she got sick after her first PH6 shot, they thought she had eaten something. After the next one she almost died, I knew it was the same dog Dr. P had told me about. She has an autoimmune disease (not the animia) and is on meds the rest of her life. However, the guy had settled with Fort Dodge and signed a release so he couldn't go on the web and tell this story. The 4th, a Dane went into shock before even leaving the hospital. Shots brought it around. No telling how many i don't know about.
My youngest son's wife's sister didn't realize until after Hunter died that her pittie had had reactions. She was reading some of the story and got to thinking about Zeus being sick 3 times, the last time was in the hospital. The vet said it was something he had eaten. Well, she got his records out and each time it was like 24 to 48 hours after his Proheart injection. She was so sure it was the PH6 she would not give it to him again.
How right you are that at first i felt so guilty, and then angry and i am still angry And like you, I have to warn people. It is like a group of 100 people going down a path and somewhere there is a rattlsnake waiting to strike one. But which one? You have to warn them all..
And since i now have learned so much about Rimadyl, Deramaxx and the other NSAIDs, I warn of them also. I do not tell people never use them, becasue sometimes that is all that can or will help a dog. But do leave it as a last resort.
