Please say hi or my dog will poop on the carpet!

just kidding [;)] he'll do that anyway even if you don't say hi [:-] (we're working on that). Anyway haha I live in New Mexico and got my dog this week through a local group that fosters animals until they find homes. His name is Rascal and is approximately 3 year old Dachshund (mixed w/ something I think, his legs seem a lot longer and his body not as long as most Dachshunds). He was removed from a home where a lady was breeding dachshunds but not taking care of them, leaving them in their crates for 18 hours at a time and some of the dogs were found dead. The lady who was fostering him said she was told he was unadoptable because of his aggressive behavior but she must have done great work w/ him because now he just wants to play and snuggle on my lap all the time. He hasn't shown the slightest bit of aggressive behavior toward me at all (thought he does tend to growl when he hears weird noises or sees a stranger) I'm looking into getting him enrolled in dog training now so hopefully that'll help with that

Anyway I look forward to posting and talking with you all and I hope you don't mind if I ask some stupid questions (I promise to do a search first [;)] )

Heres a petfinder pic of Rascal

[:D][sm=welcome2.gif]Hello and Welcome to you and Rascal.  We have a mini-doxie,13 years old next month. She is our fourth one. All lived  to about 14 -15 years old.  All little clowns and troublemakers. We also have a yellow lab and a rescue dalmatian.  Your dog is so cute, but what a terrible situation for the other poor dogs. Feel free to ask any questions--God knows I've looked stupid in some of these threads.
They ask so little and give so much!

My doggie's name is Rascal, too! I hope yours doesn't live up to his name as much as mine does! [;)] Welcome to the boards!

Rascal is very cute.  I definately think you have a mix on your hands.  You could post this picture in Breeds.  People like to guess what your dog is mixed with.  I think it might have a little jack russel.

Rascal is a wonderful looking boy. He is so lucky to have found a home with you. This site has helped me lots in the past few years with my rescues. I hope it is a help to you and Rascal as well. Good luck!

Hey thanks everyone!!!! Your replies must have worked because Rascal pooped 2 times outside today at the park..................I got so excited about it I think I freaked out this woman who was sitting on a bench.. "Why so happy about the dog pooping? Weirdo." HAHA.. cool that there is another Rascal on board. the little Rascals [:D] I will definitely post in the Breeds section I'm curious what people think he is mixed with because I don't have any idea. Hope all of you and your dogs had a great day!

Welcome to you and to Rascal! WTG Rascal for pooping in the park and not on mommy's carpet!  I think he has a little Jack Russel too. He sure is a cutie though! Good luck to both of you.

The more people I meet the more I love my dogs!

Looks like maybe some mountain feist in there too. They tend to have doxie-russell faces with a tiny bit of hound and longer legs and a bit heavier bodies

Howdy to you and Rascal, from down Texas way.  Welcome to the site.  I raised 6 dachsies over my lifetime and loved 'em.  But found "my breed" after retirement.  We're owned by two sweet little 10 lb. rat terriers, one of which is a shelter rescue with only 2 days left on her punch card when we picked her up.  It's so good of you to rescue/adopt little Rascal.  He needed to  get out of that awful situation.

    Re: Button and Zipper

You must be a seamstress---what clever names!  And I like that "Buttonbutt" handle. too.

When Tootsie arrived my grandson, daughter and I were in serious deep discussion about what to name her.  We went on for some time with Cleo, Cora, Daisy, etc.  Suddenly I noticed we couldn't see her.  I found her in the next room cuddle in the hands of my boyfriend and he was singing softly to her.  "Toot, Toot. Tootsie don't cry" "Toot, Toot, Tootsie goodbye".  No question of her name then.  'Course any of you youngsters under 50 won't know the song, but it was a big hit back in the dark ages!

    Re: Button and Zipper

I DO sew.  The first one was named for the expression of "cute as a button" and the fact that her docked tail looks like a button on a machine to me.  UKC had too many Button's on the rolls and asked me to pick another name so I fine tuned it to Buttonbutt.  Thus my user name.  If we ever get a third we've decided that one will be named Velcro.  Big Smile  I'm a 58 year old youngster, btw. Big Smile So I know the song well!
