  small cats Reply Contact I am used to large 10-20 pound cats. I got a cheap cat, really starving at a pet shop. she was nothing but bones and skin and had health issues (Coxidia/IBS). later, I feel she is way smaller than a normal cat. Are cats near their adult weight (like dogs) at 9 months? She is small, like a few-months old kitten. She is smart and likes to eat, but she seems a lot smaller than she should be. She weighs 5.5 pounds at 9 months. Is this normal? She seems like she has the proportions of a grown cat though. Could she be a mini-cat? Or is it early nutrition that stunted her growth.

  RE: small cats Reply Contact Wow, did you report that pet shop to someone?  By you buying a cat from there means they can replace that one with another that they can sell and then more and more until someone does something to stop them.  I know you may feel as if you "rescued" the cat but the pet shop only sees it as another sale and an opportunity to sell more cats just like her.  I don#%92t want you to feel as if I#%92m saying you did anything wrong because I'm sure you did what you thought was best for that cat at the time.  I think you should let someone know what#%92s going on in that pet shop so this kind of thing can stop, it's animal crulity as far as I'm concerned and they should not be allowed to sell cats in that condition even at cheap prices.  The cat is sure lucky to have an owner who cares from her as much as you do.     As far as her size I#%92ve seen full grown cats from anywhere from 5lbs to up to 25lbs.  Most cats are not a “breed” but only classified as “Domestic shot hair” or “Domestic long hair” unless it is obvious it is a certain breed or came from a breeder.  Has she seen a vet?  It#%92s hard to say without seeing her first hand and feeling her, a vet would know best.

  RE: small cats Reply Contact probably genetics. My little sealpoint meezer has always had a good diet, is nearly 12 years old and she weighs 6.8 lbs. She's simply petite. She is healthy and has yearly bloodwork done (I always start yearly blood tests on my cats when they hit 10 years of age), and her bloodwork is always right on target for her age. I pick her up, then pick up my big guy Zeus, and it always amazes how much heavier Zeus feels after I've held Missy. I'd also report that pet shop. They shouldn't be selling sick animals to anyone. Yes you probably saved her, but how many animals have died from their lack of care. Turn the goatlickers in.

  RE: small cats Reply Contact Cats can really range in weight.  I have a 8-9 month old DMH and she is 5.5 lbs right now and I doubt she is full grown or full weight yet.  She looks fine and eats well, though she was malnourished as a kitten.  I took her to the vet last week and asked if she was too thin (I can feel her pevlic bones) and they said she was fine, just a small, thin cat.  My 2 year old DSH is 9 lbs and that is how the vet wants her.  She has a smaller frame and should not weigh more than 10.  My 3 year old DSH is more like 12, but as a boy he's larger and lankier than the other two.  He's also got a thicker head. As long as the cat looks normal, it should be fine.  If you're not sure, take it to a vet.  Being overweight is very bad and can cause serious health problems.  Nothing gets me more bothered than fat pets, since it's so easily preventable and the animals depend on us humans for their health and nutrition.   RE: small cats Reply Contact my current fosters - Anna is Danny's mom. Anna weighs 6.4 lbs. and is about 2 years old. Danny weighs nearly 10 lbs.!!!! He is barely a year old He's not overweight by any stretch of the imagination. Anna could stand to gain a bit more but 7 lbs. will probably be her ideal weight. She's tiny, even has little short legs. Danny is a very large cat. No idea on his father but he must have been a big 'un

  RE: small cats Reply Contact My cat came from a petshop (I was in grade school, I didn't know any better).  She's only 7 pounds right now.  There is some breed of cat that is only about 5 lbs on average, I think it's the Abbyssinian.  Around 7-8 months kittens begin to look like itty bitty cats, proportionate and everything.  I'm guessing he's just about at that stage.  You might just have to wait and see if he gets any bigger.

She is just a small little thing that never really grew. I would reccomend checking in with a vet about her growth. Because if she is not growing properely there should be other symptoms besides just lack of body weight Rebecca and Lucy Luigh (lulu) -- Canadian Hound Rescue --

  RE: small cats Reply Contact We have a full blooded Himalayan... Baby She will  be a young 16 years old in a few weeks[].  She joined our family at the age of 6 months old.  At that time she was so tiny she fit in palm of your hands.  She was the runt of the liter and we got her for free because her mom bit half of her tail off.  Now she may weighs 5lbs.  But because of her size the tail looks normal.   Below is her pictures. (one with hair the other without!)  I would not worry small kitties still give you love just as much. On a side note:  I am not sure if it is because of her size but she has trouble jumping.  She has never jumped on the counter and has always needed chairs or steps to get up on the bed or table. Enjoy your new kid!

I was told she caught a viris that was going around the shelter, she was the only out of her litter to survive, and she is only 4-5 lbs. She is tiny.   I agree, please report the pet store, or they will continue to mistreat animals..
