Re: Good thoughts for Brutus * Good update pg 9!!!

He's had a good day.  We took everyone out for Starbucks this morning.  He seemed a little tired, & was content to curl up at my feet &watch people.  As opposed to his normal standing guard over me.  When we got back home, he was pooped and content to nap most of the day.

He was very annoyed when I took the other dogs for a run this evening, & left him behind at the house.  When we got back, he had pulled one of the cushions off the couch & was curled up on it.  That's a "normal" Brutus thing, so I was really happy to see it.

He is still picking at his food, but that's not really a new issue.  He's always been a picky eater.  Luckily, I feed him with the other dogs, & he's too stingy to leave food for fear that one of them might eat it!

Awww, Brutus, let's not take the "eat Brutus" thing too far, bud.  It's cute now, but I'm sure your mama won't feel so generous once you're feeling 100%.  That being said I'm squeeling happy that you're feeling so much better.  Tell your mom to give you a kiss on your forehead from me.

I'm getting the impression that Billy is big time spoiled...right Callie?  I know what you're saying though about nows the time to be getting yummy treats.  During the time Tessy's been sick I've spoiled her 100 times over.  It's almost to the point all she has to do is give me a certain look and she gets something.  LOL.  AND YES....Beef heart is a biggie with her also!  She absolutely loves the stuff.

What other drugs is Brutus on?  Anything to protect the stomach?  Pending on how the blood looks many have used small dose aspirin to help prevent clots from forming.  That's one of the leading causes of deaths for dogs with this disease.  I KNOW....many people on here don't like the use of NSAID's, especially when they're on these immune suppressing steroids, but they have helped countless dogs dealing with this disease.  I've talked to so many people who have said it wasn't needed and then lost their dog to a clot.  Don't want to scare ya....just wanna make sure you know of this issue.

OH YEAH...one more thing....a money saver for you.  Since you're using cyclosporine you should know that they give rebates for every two boxes of Atopica you use....assuming of coarse you are using Atopica.  Every dollar you can save will add up.

    Here's the site....   http://www.us.atopica.com/pdf/Atopica_current_rebate.pdf

Maybe there's others using this drug also who may not know about this.

Hope that Brutus is getting better.

    Hugs from Johnny & Tessy

    BEVOLASVEGAS:

...Just a quick Brutus story from today, because it was kinda funny, & totally Brutus....

When we got home this morning, after the initial excitement of being home, Bru & I were sitting on the couch.  I was eating a baked sweet potato & Bru was lounging with his head in my lap.  Suddenly, he sat up, & helped himself to part of my potato!  I was shocked, & when I recovered I asked him "What did you do?"  He knew that he was in trouble, so his response was to flop his big head back down into my lap & close his eyes. I couldn't help but to laugh, & wonder if feeding him off of a plate for the last 10 days was going to come back to bite me in the butt.

OMG, that's got me laughing so hard I'm crying!  That's great that Brutus is feeling well enough to be "bad".

So happy to see you are doing way better, Brutus. Getting your own cushion, stealing some yummy tater, going on a field trip to Starbucks... all those are such good things. Love, tummy rubs, ear scritches and good wishes for a continued recovery.

    Johnny&Tessy:

What other drugs is Brutus on?  Anything to protect the stomach?

Right now, he's on 50mg of Pred twice a day, 150mg of Atopica daily, & pepcid twice a day.  We are also using dill, & cat's claw to help keep his stomach feeling normal.  He's also on two different herbs, as well as copious amounts of milk thistle, & an assortment of joint supps.  We haven't started asprin yet, but if his PCV is still looking good tomorrow, then we will be starting.

We still aren't really sure what set this off.  The best guess that we have is that it was yellow jacket stings that sent him spiraling.  About 8-9 days before his PCV bottomed out, he was stung 11 times.  There was nothing else, abnormal, that he was exposed to.

He's still eating very well, & he's decent at taking pills.  I won't even discuss how spoiled he has turned out to be.  I'm almost afraid that he'll never fully recover, only because he knows that he might have to go back to being treated like the rest of our dogs. Hmm  He has developed a few habits that will eventually drive me nuts, but at least for now, I just laugh at him & let him do what he wants.

Thank you soooo much for the Atopica rebate info!!!  I will be using a compounding pharmacy soon, but for now, he's taking Atopica.
