Oh, add Olive and Liv to my list.  I used to like Olivia but I like the others better.  My cousin named her new baby Liv (yep, just Liv!).

My daughter has a rather unusual name.  It was my cousin's name.  She had died and I asked my aunt for permission to bring the name back into the family.  It happens we were discussing names on a trip north for a baby shower.  Her take is make it unusual in and of itself, rather than invent spellings.

Her name is Jerilyn (rhymes with Marilyn) and my maident name is her middle name.  Just a thought.

Ooo, I like Josephine!  Maybe that's because I work with someone who has that name, and she's one of the *nicest* (with a capital N) people...  Did you ever notice how you sometimes hate a name that you associate with a jerk???  Also, I'm guilty, too, but on reflection, I think maybe it's nice to name a child something that she won't always have to be s-p-e-l-l-i-n-g for everyone else for the rest of her life or be regarded as a yuppy weenie;-)

Meh....there are days I have to spell my name multiple times but you get used to it.  Not my fault people's bubbles are so small that their minds can't handle the concept that there are other languages and other ways to put letters together.  I'm the opposite, I don't think people should have to water things down or Americanize them just to make it easier on someone else.  My mom Americanized a bit for my brother and sister because of what everyone else thought, and now regrets it.

I have a friend named Amberle (pronounced Amber-lee)  I think its pretty and she's the only person I know with that name.

She said the biggest problems are that on the phone people think she says her name is Kimberly (but I think that was b/c we worked in a call center and people really weren't listening anyway) and that when you try to get things, like key chains, that have names on it, her name is never there.  Neither of those things were a huge deal, and I had a key chain specially made for her that had her name on it :o)

ALL my female cousins, me, and my Mom have the middle name Ann....and it's my Grandma's first name, her sisters middle name, and it was her mothers (my great-grandma's) middle name. Talk about a family name, lol.

    Re: Unique girls' names (janobonano)

Ok I stink at naming things. However in my opinion the old traditional names are now "unique". Who names a child Mary, or Elizabeth, or Ann anymore. They all have trendy cutesy names. When you "think" you have a name, think YEARS down the road when the child is a professional, does the name still work? My cousin named her daughter AWFULLY. Her initials even were terrible. We think when she chose it she thought it was "cute". For a baby it might be, but babies grow up.

MRV I know a few Jerilyn's. I like that name. Probably the most unique I can come up with is Michela. Pronounced Mish Shay La call her Mikey.

Not sure where she got Ann from we don't have an Ann in our family at least not that I've ever heard of. Even one of my aunts gave her daughter the middle name as Ann her name is Jessica Ann lol guess it all goes.  At least my mom didn't give us Zena believe thats my great grandmothers name. Won't go into my father's side he's from Albania they have some really weird names but Kristina is popular over there my dad picked it out, on my original birth certificate they spelt it wrong gave me Christina so glad my mom had them change it to K I like it better lol.

I like the idea of Tuesday but I personally like Friday better.  Who doesn't love Fridays?

Others I like: Ivy, Marty, Colette, and my middle name Roxanne.  And I'll through out two unique names that aren't personal favorites of mine but I think they are neat - Leta and Marlo.

Speaking of names that are overused - Isabella.  Dude, if I hear one more person name their daughter Isabella or Bella I'll puke.  There are going to be ten in each class when they get to daycare and school!

My parents were thinking this way when they named us. We each have a name that can be shortened, like Cathy, but can be more formal, like Catherine, which is my true name. I never use Catherine but my mom used it whenever I was in trouble. Big Smile

On a funny note, one of our teachers was telling me that she had a new student and his first name was Your Majesty. He didn't last but she said she was scrambling to think of a nickname because there was no way she was going to address him as Your Majesty.

    OMG, that's just nuts!

Janice, I say go with Kelly!  That's my middle name and I'd be honored to share! Stick out tongue

I love Olive, but my friend just named her baby Evelyn Olive. And I have a cousin named Olivia, nickname Livi, so I think that's too close.

Yes! Eleanor was on my sister's name list for her daughter. She said they'd call her Nora, which just made me cringe, for the reason above. I'm so glad they went with Margaret.
