    Hey there!

Paradise  Wanted to stop by and introduce myself.  I'm very excited to be here with fellow dog lovers.  I tell ya, some people just don't get it!  Anyway, we currently have five rescues--two of which are dogs.

Beringer (Bearsy) is my newfie/lab mix and Bella is a beagle/english setter mix--just picture a beagle on stilts.  They are both senior citizens and  I look forward to advice on supplements, food recommendations, etc.

We live in the fabulous Florida Keys--hence my name.  I look forward to getting to know you all.....cheers!

Hey there and welcome! Pictures of Bearsy would be great because I have a Newfie/Lab mix also. His name is Lion.

    Re: Hey there!

Oh! Oh! Hello! I live up the coast a-ways from you, but my BF and I pack up and head down there, usually Islamorada, every summer for a week or so :)

I always wondered - where do folks down there buy the 'better' brands of dog food? I've never even seen a PetSmart or Petco down there, much less anyplace that would sell the more premium brands. It does seem like a pretty dog friendly place so I always wondered if I was just missing something, LOL.

    Re: Hey there!

Thanks, all, for the friendly welcome.  For things in general we usually buzz up to the mainland or order online.  My guys have been on Science Diet ZD Ultra so I've been getting it from my vet (cha ching).  I'm trying out Taste Of the Wild now  (thoughts, please) and it's available in Key Largo and Key West.  That's the cost of living in paradise, I guess.  Everything is so very expensive here--I told my dogs to get a part time job.  lol

Islamorada is great--hope the locals are treating you guys well.  Do you bring your dogs?  Yep I think it's dog friendly here--everyone's pretty laid back so anything goes!

    Cheers~Island

I'l take some pics soon of Bear and post.  Thanks!

    Re: Hey there!

I think some people's beef with TOTW is that it's made by Diamond, who've had some quality control issues in the past. BTW, I know some people on the board order their dog food online...most of the companies I've seen will do free shipping with a $50 or so order. My two are little, so $50 worth of food would last an obnoxiously long time!

We've never brought the pups down there - the last few summers we've either gone with a group of friends (that Pirate would have been scared of - he has stranger issues, LOL) or BF's parents. BF's mom is a big dog lover, but his dad claims he isn't...I don't know about that, I've busted Pirate in his lap on the Lazy Boy a few times! If we rent the same house this summer, we'll probably bring them down.

Weird that you know my town so well! It's pretty much the same, except they aren't using the old high school anymore. They built a new one over by the NSB/Edgewater line, on 10th St. There's another person who posts here who's grandma lives/lived (I forget?) here and used to spend summers here. We had ONE poster, once, who lived in town but she hasn't posted in forever.

Here's another NSB connection - I went to HS there.  Currently live in Denver, and my coworker just returned from the Keys yesterday.  She came back to a blizzard that will drop 10-18 inches today/tomorrow - up to 24 in the foothills.  She would much rather be back in the Keys. Paradise

Hope you enjoy our forum, there's a great group of people with knowledge, humor, and support to share.

    Re: Hey there!

Welcome!!  This forum is chock full of info, and wonderful people (and their furkids!)

I'll pipe in to say that I'd take TOTW over Science Diet any day of the week.  If you wander over to the Nutrition section, you'll find tons of info on the subject.  It's certainly helped me pick out the best food for my boys.

Also wanted to chime in about posting pictures of your puppers.  They're a requirement, dontcha know?  LOL. Wink

I knew it was something, Paige!!

Islandtime, your pups are cute!! That is one leggy hound, LOL. There is a poster, Calliecritturs, who has the opposite - a SHORT hound mix that we call an 'everything beagle' named Luna.

Yep, technically I lived in Edgewater, but went to NSBMS and NSBHS, after going to Spruce Creek my Freshman year for their International Baccalaureate (IB) program.  I recall that Deland's colors were green and white, right? but I can't remember their mascot.  lol  Hmm, I also used to write for the Daytona Beach News-Journal back then.
