  Sex Offenders Should Spend Life in Prison/Receive Death Penalty Reply Contact What do you think? I've been thinking more about this lately, and I really believe that sex offenders should have to live in their own communities OR spend life in prison. Edit: or receive the death penalty. I'm not talking about guys convicted of statuatory rape for having consensual sex with a girl that is 1 or 2 years younger than them and under the legal age...I think that is VERY different from rape of an adult or a child. Am I'm talking in cases where there is conclusive evidence - DNA, confession etc. IMO rapists should spend life in prison or, once released, spend the remainder of their lives in their own communities (okay, this is a stretch), that they can take care of. IMO there is nothing more heinous than sex crimes and the men (or the few women) who commit these disgusting acts do NOT deserve a second chance. Additionally, I'm pretty sure the majority of rapists are repeat offenders or will be repeat offenders. If they are vile enough to do it once, they have the capacity to do it again. I'm so sick of hearing of little girls and boys being abducted, and lo and behold, the suspect/perpetrator is a known sex offender. Perhaps if we KEPT these "people" out of our neighborhoods for good, Or maybe tattoo their foreheads with "rapist" or something of the sort so people know.   Re: Sex Offenders Should Spend Life in Prison Reply Contact Our state has a PSOR (which now includes photos).  I check it every few months, and any time we are looking at a new house or apartment.  I also checked in college so I knew which houses to avoid (never had a car, walked to school, work, store, bank, etc).  The house across the street and two down from mine has a registered sex offender.  I need to dig out my Michigan Compiled Law (MCL) book to figure out the exact offense (I only know how to read/interpret this book from taking criminal investigations), but when I saw this person on the list I made a point of walking both my GSDs past the house and back to mine! http://vankelderdogs.dutchbingo.net http://www.schhmi.com

I do support the death penalty, and my state has it as well. I'm liking the replies so far. I was sure some would jump in and defend the 'rights' of the offenders!   Re: Sex Offenders Should Spend Life in Prison Reply Contact I used to wonder if chemical castration should be more widely used.  I mean, we take away people's right to drive, we put them on probation so they cannot own or use guns...so why not castration?  But, I dunno...I think many offenders use rape and sexual violence as a means of power and control, not just to "satisfy" themselves.  I've heard of impotent offenders that still find ways of tormenting women sexually. http://vankelderdogs.dutchbingo.net http://www.schhmi.com

  Re: Sex Offenders Should Spend Life in Prison/Receive Death Penalty Reply Contact Really, back in the good old days you stayed in jail maybe over night then saw a judge who either put you to work doing community service or ordered something cut off like a hand, ear, ect or something branded in a visible place and you were free to go, come back again and you went to the gallows. IDK I have two male friends I love very much who were both accused of rape - one I know whole heartedly didn't do it, the girl lied because she felt bad for cheating on her boyfriend so my friend ended up in court and that's pretty much scared him for life but he was exonerated, my other friend is just a rapist by rumor, a girl killed herself and he was the last person to have known sex with her. The real rapists should just be castrated. then at least they won't pass on what could be some screwed up genetics to the next generation!

  Re: Sex Offenders Should Spend Life in Prison/Receive Death Penalty Reply Contact Actually the death penalty doesn't save states money ... it costs more to put someone to death than it does to keep them in prison for life.  Here's why:  When someone gets  the death penalty, they're not taken out behind the courthouse and shot.  They go on death row, and then the appeals start.  The appeals can go on for many, many years.  CA has people that have been on death row for 20+ years. I could be happy with a sentence of life without possibility of parole for rapists and/or child molesters. Joyce

  Re: Sex Offenders Should Spend Life in Prison/Receive Death Penalty Reply Contact Yes...its so easy for me to jump on the death penalty wagon for these crimes until a statement like Joyce said that makes us think differently.   I am not sure we need 20 years on death row to be sure though.... that is one of our problems.   Its our system that is so wrong....why do appeals have to take years?  They should not be put aside,they should be handled right away and then the person convicted would get their appeals and chance to be proven not guilty.  But our system doesn't work that way, and therefore it takes more money to give the death sentence they really deserve.
