    Dog ID Tag Ideas

I want to get my two boys some ID tags but I am not sure what to put on them. My one dog, Khazi, a 14 month lab/pit mix leaves his tags alone and wears his license, rabies, and home again tag with no problem. But the other, Vegas, a 14 week lab/German Shepard mix had left his rabies tag alone but chewed on his home again tag so I took it off before he ruined it completely. They have the standard plastic home again tags you are given when they get chipped. Khazi's home again tag is starting to wear away a bit. So I am wondering if I should put their chip number on their tags or just state if that they do have microchips. I would love to hear comments on what other people have done for their dog's ID tags.

I got my boys metal tags, with their names, my number, vets number and on the back it said, I'm microchipped!  Hot Shot wears it fine, Rocky likes to go play in the pond and the woods and lost his within 2 weeks, lol!  I will have to make sure I have a much stronger o-ring when I get his new one.

    Re: Dog ID Tag Ideas

I've had problems with my tags falling off or getting caught on things (which sends the dog into a panic) so I switched to collars with brass ID plates.  Gun Dog Supply puts ID plates on for free.  Not the best quality collars or plates, but still not a bad deal!  Mine read like this:

    ANIMAL NAME - OWNER NAME
    [our number]
    [second cell number]
IF AUG, [cottage number where we are in August]

Nikon, doing a track wearing his ID collar

My tags had more lines and two sides so had a lot more info, but like I said they don't stay on.  I've had people call my cell and tell me that they found my dogs' tags and clipped them to a fence at the park.

Caleb has honest to goodness military dog tags (with silencers)- one has our name, address and cell phone numbers on it, the other has the same info that is on his microchip tag.  They're the same size as the Air Force in this picture (they're actually behind that tag).  And, since they came in sets of two- I have one of each on on a ring in our training bag- just in case something happens to his collar when we are away (the training bag goes everyplace we go).

    All the Angels were busy
so they sent me Caleb instead.

Mine have slide-on tags from Boomerang. They cannot come off unless the collar comes off, the engraving is still crisp after several years, they cannot be caught in teeth when roughousing and are easy to switch when we change collars. On them, there is their name, our home phone, the vet phone and the mention "Home Again microchip".
